shifter knob

does anyone know how to properly remove the shifter knob from a 98 2.3 five speed?? it looks like the leather boot is connected some how...

The boot is connected to a plastic ring that pops down of the shift knob ( use a flat headed screwdriver ). Then the knob twists off and your done.
