Shift in the red line Yes/No?
I've noticed that in dyno graphs for the cl series that right around 6000 rpm the torque and horsepower curves begin to decline for the rpms after this point. I logically assumed that it is best to shift before 6000 or right before redline. I could be wrong can anyone back this up. I also base this on the fact that from a standstill I'm usually faster if I shift right before 6,000 in each gear, rather than accelerating up to around 6500 or 7000. Does anybody know about this or does this make sense to anyone else.

If you shift at 6 or what ever lower RPM you said, you drop the RPMs down lower out of VTEC range than if you shift at 7.... so you may loose a little power going all the way to 7 but it is still loosing less than if you shift at 6 let the car drop farther out of vtec and have to work its way back to 45. At least thats the way I see it.

Good point 23,
I guess I'll try playing around with different shifting points and see what kinda numbers I can come up with. Im still pretty much stock so I should get a pretty good idea.
Also does anyone know what the actual stock VTEC engagement rpm # is. I unfortunately never bothered to find this out.

Yeah I usually get forced out of gear at right above 6,800 and by that point my car is no longer accelerating, then I have to take the time to shift back into gear and by this point Im already a car length or two back on whatever chump pee-on saturn or neon is trying to race me at the time. You know these people the ones that have all the APC stickers and wrap their wipers in tin foil because their to lazy to sand them to the metal or spray paint them with chrome coloring, or even to buy shiny metalic wipers)
Anyway then I just have to put up a little extra effort to put these plebes outta their misery

Im with you, about the 100rpm shift before fuel cut off with out taking the foot off the gas. It does suck when you miss a shift though. I thought it was 7g but im sure your right with the 6.5. for the redline.

Back to the topic should you use a dyno graph to determine your shift points since after a certain rpm hp begins to drop rapidly? I'll use Niedejb's dyno as an exaple notice how his power peaks at around 5500 but at 5700 he has lost 8 horsepower

I haven't missed any shifts but it sounds like it's bad news when you do! Isn't it bad for the car if you dont' take off the gas when shifting? What is VTEC engagement for the 2.3, 4200rpm?
