should i sell my 99 cl 3.0 for an a4 quattro manual 1.8T? i really want a stick shift car and i hear these are pretty reliable, anybodys feedback will help

well first of all let me say that I love the CL. Second I ahve to say that the a4 is a very luxurious and nice looking luxuri car. The interior is also beautiful. The a4 is a greeat car, but is also significantly slower than a cl in stock form, but if you chip an a4 it has the potential be be beating a cl-s. Great cars, the only way to know if you want to sell is to drive one first. you could always just by an S4

the a4s are going for around 15 since the new one came out, my friend chipped his gti and it flies, i mean very very fast, and i dont have any extra money to put into the deal so whatever i get for the cl has to be enough for an a4, where would be the best place to sell my cl...?

i would if i where u depends on what year it was u said it was turbo right if it is do it then u can put the apr chip add about 30-40hp hell ya man do it but thats just my opinion

whoever said a cl is faster than the a4 1.8t is definately wrong

99 1.8t a4 has 150hp and 155 torque

ur right arram....my opinion is that both cars are hot.... the cl has the sporty look while the a4 has the luxoury look...but if i buy a freakin audi its gonna be the s4.....no a before the 4...lol

I've ALWAYS loved the A4....doesn't matter to me what the hp is.

Unless there's something else new out when I'm ready to sell the CL, the A4 is what I'll be looking at.

The a4 handles great but its definately a dog. My friend just bought a 99 but the 2.8 because he said the 1.8 was alot slower. He let me drive it and Im pretty sure a 2.2 cl could take it. I guess there is alot of drivetrain loss because of the awd.

yeah. it's slow, but a chip doesnt cost that much.


stock for stock the CL would most likely win tho.

I gave up buying a 97 2.8 5spd A4 to get my CL.
1) if you are looking for speed the A4 stock are SLOW either engine you get.

2) they are unreliable cars. their biggest fault is their electrical system, they go wonky after awhile and they are really expensive to fix.

Also their suspension is prone to leaks after time (the older ones like 97, especially the 97s actually) and again not cheap to fix.

Also, 15g for the 1.8T sounds high, depending on the year. i was going to buy the 6cyl for about the same price.

In the end the choice is yours, but they way you were talking it sounded like you didnt have a lot of money to put into a car anyway, so you may just want to hold off and save your pennies rather then get yourself into financial trouble.

if you want to buy an A4, the best year to get is the 99.5 and up.

the majority of the electrical problems were solved as well as most of the suspension issues.

do any of you know if the a4 when chipped , can be unchipped easily and make it unnoticeable when taken to the dealer for warranty repair?

the chip voids all warranty for the car.



performance chips for N/A's dont do that much. the reason turbo cars benefit so much is the chip overrides the stock boost setting and raises it.

if you will get a4 1.8 get one from 01 i think they running 180 hp
dont get 97-99 they are only 150 and with quadro they are kinda slow ......... my friend has 1.T q. and i have 2.2 5 speed and he is scared to run me cause i think ill smoke him . But you can do sooooooooooooo much more with a4 than cl. I do like interior but not big fan of 4 door cars ......... i wish my car looked like his inside.

i thought the a4 had kind of a boring interior, almost cheap, but this was a 5 year old used car. design wise it wasnt exciting.

im happier with my cl. honda does the interiors right, always have.
