security LED

hey, im going to change my securtiy LED to a blue one........i dont think it will be that hard of a job. I already searched, but i cant find an answer to my question.

When i put the blue LED in there, do i need a cathode or resistor since it is already an LED in there? (im just assuming its not an incondestent bulb)

Let me know what you guys think/know about the whole project.

Thanks a bunch!!

I dont think the mod is worth the time it requires. On top of that you need to find out what color the lense will give you. But if you insist.
I dont think you would have a problem. The way the actual bulb sits its kinda weird. Last time I opened the door panel the bulb came off its place and I couldn't find out how it sat on right. Changing it should be a snap. Make sure you save some solder and a soldering iron.

i thought it was just a clear lense??? and what do you mean by "the bulb sits weird"?? is a normal LED? or some weird OEM only thing.

Its a lil red bulb a lil bigger than a grain of rice. I dont know how leds were back in the day but the bulb coating is red so i dont know if its led. You would need to get a small ass led to fit or you can modify it to sit right. I dont think the lense is clear. I might me wrong. Im almost sure the lense isnt clear. Goodluck

lol, i thought about it... i will put my blue viper alarm led there..... eventually lol

btw - you best bet is to extend the wire and find a way to make sure the led stays there while putting back the door lining.

all you need is any 3mm LED, there is already a resistor in place as its already an LED and the alarm module gives out a 12 volt pulse to flash it. Some LEDs have diffused lenses (colored) and some are clear... they're still LEDs.

Just be carefull when pulling the door panel off, as the lead from the door to the LED is fairly short.

If you're really unsure about it, send the indicator assembly to me and i'll do it for free... I have some extra blue LEDs laying around.

r u talkin bout the light on the stock stereo player or the door one? i changed the door one to white led. i cutted the stock bulb and wired the led to the stock resistor device. then drilled a hole so that the white led sticks up alittle bit and is more visible.

U can just solder the new led on, no resistors needed.

I believe the 5mm LEDs will fit... now that you mention it, I think I remember buying a 5mm LED because of what you just said, they dont have a 3mm blue LED and thats where I got mine. Its just a matter of physical size, weather or not it will fit in the housing... the pins are the same distance apart so either one will fit in the PC board.

Hyper LED=crap usually... its just a word put with the "alarm" LEDs and what-not.

Like I said, if you can deal with it out of your car for a few days, send it to me and i'll do it up for you. Otherwise, send me your address and i'll send you a blue LED, I have a bunch of 'em now, 3 and 5mm.
