I was on my way to the track today and the guy behind me said I was runnin rich, first how do I know if I am and second how do I fix it

 

if you haven't messed w/ the air fuel ratio you should be fine

Get an FPR and adjust it accordingly

Have you gutted your cats, or done exhaust work?

 

or were u driving hard? if u hit vtec the car does run rich cause of the air it inducts

 

Well the car is a 98 not like its new or anything. Yeah I was driving hard. This dumb truck thaught he wanted to run so I had to show him whats up. just checkin to make sure it normal. I did have and exhaust put on as well

 

maybe youre not running rich, maybe you blew your head gasket...


either way you wont be rich for long!

 

I don't think I blew a head gasket. Its not that bad he said it was only when I like hit it and VTEC kicks in. There wasn't smoke or anything so. Anybody got any suggestions or has this happened to anybody else?

 

take it to a shop and see

or a dyno shop can see how rich/lean you are running

with my vafc controler i can set mine but thats with the vafc

 

if there wasn't any smoke, how did the guy know you're runnin rich?

 

the smell. dude dont worry bout it. it always smells rich when ur in vtec. lots of air and fuel.

Running higher than 87 octane could cause that (or what looks like that - esp extra deposits on the plugs and throughout your engine). Aren't you one of the fruitcakes that runs 93?
