'Rust' on Rotors
I'll be painting my calipers here shortly and was trying to figure out if you guys know of anything that'll take rust off my rotors. Its not exactly on the rotor but rather on the ledge between the rotor and the wheel. I can take a pic of it tomorrow but most of you hopefully know what im talking about. They're brand new rotors so im kinda pissed they have rust on them already. any ideas guys? thanks.

I'll try the steel wool. and i searched but couldnt find what i needed. whats a good product to use to clean the calipers. I have engine degreaser but that leaves behind a residue. thanks

Ever change rotors in a drizzle? Laying flat on the ground, literally within minutes each raindrop will form a little rust spot. Bare metal rusts faster than you'd imagine.
As for rust paint on the edge of the rotor (I'm guessing that's what you're talking about?), put a wire brush on a drill then try POR 15.
The stuff uses moisture to cure, to the point where the company warns that even one drop of sweat dripping into the can will ruin the whole thing. The good thing about that is that it's recommended that you paint over rust rather than reduce it to bare metal. We use this on Jeep frames and tubs and I've personally seen them go 10 years on a 20 year old Jeep with no rust coming through.
The only issue I can think of to look into is how well it handles high temperatures. That, I have no idea. Well, that, and it gets expensive if you use a lot of it. Here it's about $50/quart.
