Resonator diameter question

I searched before posting this.

I know that 22" long resonator muffles the sound more than an 18" but what's the difference in the diameter do? I've seen 4", 6" and 7" diameter magnaflow resonators, do the bigger ones muffle more than the smaller ones? That's what I'd assume? I've seen no discussion of this at all on this forum so any advice would help. thanks.

bigger ones wont do as much, becuase air can flow through easier

What resonator would best fit 2.5" piping?

but resonators with different diameters come in in different pipe sizes. As seen [link=http://www.hottexhaust.com/AluminizedRound.htm]here[/link] you can get 6in and 4in daimeter round resonators in the same pipe sizes. So does anyone know what the differences are?

its the diameter of the body, not the enter/exit pipe

both the 18" & 22" are showing 2" inlet and outlet I was looking at them yesterday for what it's worth

HUH? the bigger the resonator, the more sound it will 'muffle' if you want to quiet it down as much as possible, get the largest diameter and longest resonator you can find with the inlet/outlet you need.

I got a 22'' resonator from magnaflow.. I can hear my engine now instead of just muffler

the bigger the diameter the more noise.

think about it.. the quietest =

longest w/ the smallest diameter

i think we are misunderstanding.

if you need a 2.5" inlet/outlet, and your diameter options for the resonator are 4", 6", and 7" with lengths being the same... the 7" would quiet it down the MOST.

that's what I thought cleanCl but that's not shat shineynitelite is saying. So who's right? Also what's the biggest daimeter that are cars can accomodate? That magnaflow website isn't very helpful it doesn't give any useful info to help answer this question.

after actually thinking about this cleancl is right..

but you wouldnt want anything bigger than a 4 inch diameter

i am running 6" magnaflow, just like on that site, but im a 2nd gen. you guys can probably get away with the 4".

just think, the larger the inside of the resonator is, the more area there is for sound/resonance to hit/absorb.

well when I look at klepto's pics here https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...flow+resonator . He's using a 4" resonator and it looks like there's more than 1" of space on each side of it so maybe I could squeeze in a 6" one (sorry that sounded so sexual, not intended). But since they don't make 22" long 6" diameter resonators with a 2.25 in/out the question is now which will muffle more sound the 18" with 6" diameter or the 22" with 4" diameter? But of course this magnaflow website puts up no info on how much these actually muffle the sound in a certain frequency range. Does anyone now where I could get this info. Also anyone who's running a magnaflow exhaust with at least an 18" long and 4"diameter resonator can you tell me how much louder this combo is over the stock exhaust or is it maybe quieter? Thanks for the help guys.

I myself went from a stock exhaust setup, to a deleted resonator + magnamuff + bigger piping setup, to a 22'' resonator + all that before setup.

It is definitely louder than stock, but not nearly as loud as a no resonator setup.

People will hear your car when you punch it, (so will you) but when you're cruising, it'll be just fine. I can hear the cabin and everything inside it perfectly.

I just changed mine last week. and I love it. it's definately louder than stock(which you hear nothing), kind of a slight hum. I got the 4" and 18"L. with the magnaflow muff. Love it....more of a factory sports car sound....i did say sound
