replacing stereo

soo after a bump in the road and some bowling bags in the trunk some wires got pulled out of my audiolink and they shorted my 6x9... (my 2nd 6x9 to bite it)
in turn i have decided to replace the whole stereo in my car. i want to get new 6x9's, 6.5's and a new headunit. is there any preferred brands/models on this forum and will i have any fit issues with aftermarket speakers.

i figure this is going to be covered all over the place, ive seen some people saying alpine type r's

i was lookin at some kickers at circuit city for 248 for all 4 componants... thing is i dont know that much about installing these especially with the stock amp which i want to get rid of and use a aftermarket amp.

Definately use an aftermarket amp. You definately have to be careful about the mounting depth of your speakers, the mounting depth is only about 2" for the 6x9's and 6.5's. I got components with over a 3" mounting depth and 40 Oz magnets and had to make spacers to fit my speakers in and it was a bitch. Don't get huge magnet speakers if you want a clean stock look, like i said look for about 2" mounting depth, don't go much beyond that or your 6x9's will sit on your trunk springs and not go in, mine wouldn't. I still have to put my 6.5's in and I'll get more pics up, but they have the same depth issues as my 6x9's did, so I had to get spacers for them too. Here's a write up and some pics of the project I had tryin to get my 6x9's to fit.

Mulk, I am not sure yet since I haven't ripped my stock 6.5's out, but the mounting dept is 2-3/4" which I know is too big, not sure by how much, I do have .5" depth extenders for them though

you'll be fine, my alpine type r's have a mounting depth of 3".. if yours dont fit without the spacers, you can cut out the back of the plastic speaker baffle, thats what i did, you'll see what i mean when you take it apart, it looks kinda like a vent. after i did that the back of the magnet was flush with the outside of the baffle and i just covered it with electrical tape to protect from water, good luck

Any stereo shop will do the installation, if you bring your own parts, the price may be higher for labor though. That's why i do all my own stunts, I mean installations

lol, i just dont have the time to deal with installing a new stereo, better to just drop it off and get it done in a couple hours at a shop, it would take me forever to get it done.
