replacing drive belts

I feel like a noob for asking this, but... it must be done.

My belt(s) are sqeaky and I dont like it. I dont feel like taking it to a mechanic. I searched this site and my repair manual, but I couldnt find instructions on how to change them. Im guessing that all I have to do is loosen the adjusting screw on the power steering pump and alternator, then slip the belts off, replace, and retension.
My main concern is: How will I know when I have the proper tension on the new belt?

Thanks for your help guys

oh, 2.2 for those of you who arent going to look at my sig

check you owners manual, it should give you the exact number for how much "free play" the belts should have.
