Removing spare tire.

Hey guys.. I want to strip some weight off my car, and i thought about removing my spare tire. I know one of my friends who has a RX-8, the car came with a airpump with a special liquid that repairs the tire, temporarely.

I wonder if such a thing can be bought, i look on the net, couldnt find anything.

Thx :P

You mean this?

Of course if you have severe tire damage or sidewall puncture, you would be SOL.

If it's a daily driver, it's not worth it. Why would you want to get stranded somewhere just to save a couple of pounds?

In my opinion if you're doing this for a weight reduction it's totally not worth it. I would rather have the weight in my car if I need it then not. Fix a flat might work, but what if you disintegrate your whole tire like the pics above? That can won't help you. I'm fiberglassing my trunk, but taking the time to build a whole new false floor to keep my spare, just so I don't get stuck on the side of the road with 3 wheels.

PS your car isn't a race car, you don't need to loose 15 lbs

The RX-8 omits the spare tire as a standard option to give you more trunk space. The spare tire kit optionally available for just under $400. It's so awkwardly mounted, I partially believe it's due to marketing reasons. All these sporty cars are always advertising, "you can fit two filled golf club bags in the trunk." You may not be able to do that with the kit on.

Fix-A-Flat, RX8 tire repair and equivalents are fine for minor tread punctures. For those instances were you are in a situation like AznX TL, you'll need a spare or call AAA.

If you are really serious, offloading weight from the front end of the car (ABS, A/C, etc) may be worth your wild. You'll get better front-to-rear weight distro.

i can see if you want to track the car to do a 1/4 mile run taking out the tire would be good, but not good for daily driving....

I've fit 3 different speaker boxes across the back of my trunk and was still able to get to the spare tire with all 3 speaker boxes. And you can fit 2x12's back there with no interfence to getting to the spare. Trust me
