remote starter install diy

Does anybody know of a DIY on installing a remote starter. I would love to have one but just don't want to pay best buy the $200 they're asking just for installation. Or does anybody know how involved they are? i have installed several radio and speakers and messed around with wiring on trailers and trucks before but nothing major. I think I could handle it if I had a DIY. Thanks!

you should be able to do it.... depending on what kinda starter you have.... compustars are the hardest to install... then there are others that are pretty simple.

our wiring diagram

your 97 shouldnt need a key transponder bypass module so you should be ok

Ouuchh!! Yea, see if theres a way that you could bypass BestBuy. I found someone local who actually installs everything from mobile video to 2 way paging alarms, to remote starts. He actually will drive to your location and do it where ever you are. (ie. work, home..etc.)
He only charges like $169 for the remote....AND that includes installation also. (some extra add on's are like $20 each)

So my advice would be to check around your area...look in the phone book, and call around. Honestly, I dont trust Bestbuy. (When I got my mobile video screen & dvd player installed, Bestbuy said it coudnt be done w/ the OEM bose system....and they wanted me to buy all new speakers from them...then plus installiation for those too!! ...And yes, they were full of sh*t because I was able to keep the OEM audio system.

So yea...i'd call around and try to find a smaller shop!

that seems like way too much money , unless theyre factoring in the fact that they dont know what theyre doing so it takes them a couple extra hours
