RECALL - ignition switch

I just got this notice from Acura in the mail last week. I finally called a dealership today and they said there's a fire risk. Anyone else get this or know more about it?

I think Honda sent the notices in batches. There was a time when the parts were not available (because of the demand). You would need to call the service department first to see if the parts were available, and then make an appointment. There was a long list. This recall was for other cars on the line also.

The problem was that the tolerances for the electronic contacts were bad. People were hanging many keys and keychains weighing down and putting pressure on the contacts. Sooner or later the contacts were loose, and some people reported that their car engine shut down with no warning. I read stories were a person was driving on a freeway at 70 and lost control. This person was stunned and didn't know what to do and crashed into the center divider.

So, it's a good idea to get it done.

I had mine done after i stalled in the middle of two lanes going opposite directions and couldnt restart for a minute. That is a rather unpleasant feeling. I'm guessing ignition switch cause it hasnt happened since I got the recall done.

Here's the recall by the NHTSA...

Click on "get summary" for the details of the recall.

I'm not sure if it affected i4 CL's. But you can check on that site.

I'm not sure if that's correct. I have a '97 3.0 and my switch was replaced. At least that's what they told me (Honda supplied me with a rental car also). You might ask to speak to a regional representative or call Honda's main office in Gardena, California, to find out if you have been misinformed or if I had my switch replaced for no reason.
