Race Question

How does the stock first gen CL stand up to the other cars out there in a race? I haven't raced mine, but to be honest, it seems just about average. I have a Ford Windstar with a 200 hp engine that seems like it could give it a good run for it's money. I was wondering how the Grand Prix, Lexus, 5.0 Mustang, Monte Carlo, Camaro, etc compare.

Any Stock CL racers out there?

I have raced an Accord with all the bolt on mods and we were side by side all throuh 3rd gear. All our cars are is a heavier, nicer Accord. CL's are not that fast. I could buy any of those cars in your list, but I like my CL for the style. Most any four cyclinder we will be close to depending on upgrades. Domestic six cyclinder should be close also. V8's can usually kick our ass. I had a 94 LT1 Vette, never got beat by an import on the street. It is harder for a front wheel drive to hook up on the street other than a rwd with radials than the track with slicks.

YEAH

I was just wondering. I bought mine as an every day driver, but have seen many CL owners talking race here. This made me wonder if mine was a slug or something, because even though it is a Vtec six, it really isn't a screamer. The looks and reliability are why I bought it, and the pep of the vtec really comes in handy for passing. My last three Hondas were 4 cylinders (non VTEC) so this is definitely more than I have been used to lately. I guess the fun is racing within your class anyway.

Yea, they are nice everyday cars that look good when they are fixed up. I have people ask me all the time "what kind of car is that." Our VTEC (Variable valve Timing and Electrical lift Control)on a single overhead cam is not a true VTEC. The VTEC on a car controls the cam lobes, which the DOHC, 4 valves per cyclinder( 2 intake, 2 exhaust)have more cam lobes than a SOHC. That's what it was designed for was a DOHC. VTEC adds 2 more valve lobes for a total of 6 per cyclinder. VTEC opens the other 2 lobes up at a higher rpm, which changes the compression and timing of the car. They just stuck it on there SOHC because they could. It works, just not that well compared to the DOHC.

I just like getting from point A to point B in style. I don't care how long it takes. The slower I go, the more people get to see.

Got smaked at the track last night by a 2002 Mustang Cobra. I ran 14.879@100.62 MPH and the Mustang ran a 14.184 @ 99.62 MPH

I'm shooting a 75 shot. My run at the track sucked. I got no tracktion at all with my cheap kumho tires. I started shooting off the line so that didn't help me get any traction as well. I need to get some nice nitto drag radials and some light 15 inch rims for the front . And that was with a full interior, with spare tire and tools in the trunk.

RSX, other CLs (2.3s and 3.0s), Monte Carlo, Eclipse GST, some stangs, Audi A4, highly moded Z24s, Integra GSR, Civic SI...

Thats about it...others aren't worth mentioning...

stock 3.0 cl fairs well against:

all stock 4 cylinders.... (civic, integra, etc) if you know how to drive off an immediate line (they rae lighter than us!

some 6 cylinders.... mustang 6 cylinder, 3000gt non-turbo...

all 8 cylinders destroy us! even durangos! so i suggest doing some work to your sock 3.0!

i could rip the interior out of any car you gave me if it needed to be lighter.. for instance, we're gutting one of the landrovers soon to see how diesel it looks

......um y would u want to gut a beautiful CL or land rover??? Is there anyway else to make the car lighter besides gutting it?? It looks so ugly and cheap. The interior is a large factor in which u paid 25K for. y would u want to look gutted?? gutted hatchback DX with windo cranks are acceptable b/c the interior is not so valuable to start with but a CL or even a LAnd Rover???!!!! ur NUTS!!!!!! :wackit: :shakehd:

its not always about the looks. Some people like to gut. If your racing, most likely you want faster time and by taking the interior out you will nok some weight off to do so.

I bought my cl for looks and to spank others (eventually).

The cl is not a slow car but could of used another cam (LOL).

Thats why the beautiful and animal like H22 is available for us.
which i will hopefully own within the next couple months. But won;t install till i have enough $$ for the suprcharger.

Durangos? My mom has a 99' durango with the 360 C.I. v-8 in it and that thing is a dog. I was driving it the other day back from blockbuster and a stock civic was fucking with me. I was behind him at a light and we both took off when the light turned green. Needless to say I lost. If your cars getting beat by durangos there is something wrong. Our car will beat a stock integra and a beat a stock civic really fucking easy. No prob.
