Questions for those with 5spds.

Why does our stick shift has a curve towards the middle. If I were to cut it right under the ending of the curve part would it affect in in any way? I am getting my neuspeed short shifter adapter in a few days so I was planning on cutting the stick shift so it can look lower.

Cut it below the curve - there's a nice long straight section down there for you to cut from. Report back after you're done - I'd like to hear how it turns out.

If you replace the stock shift knob with a aftermarket one, the knob will sit about 1-1/2"-2" lower.

ive been wanting to cut my stick for a while now... after installing my adapter. which aftermarket knobs will reduce the length the most? i want a stock looking one...not something too outrageous.

i got an S2K style knob, i love it but it gets too hot/cold in the summer/winter. if i knew how to weld, i'd cut my shift lever in a second!

Were exactly did you cut the shifter at? So did you cut it and then rethread? How many inches did you cut from it? Thanks

you cant cut the top of the shifter... the shifter is hollow and if you cut the top off, you wont be able to re-thread it. Cut it at the stock weld point... grind down the old weld, cut the shifter to the length you want... ignore the curve, that just sets the shift knob in a certain position... but you can have some fun with it if you want and move the position of the knob slightly. Re weld the shifter to the base in the position you want, and go to town with your new short shifter.

I cut mine about 1"... but I think i'm gonna go shorter... I have a stock WRX leather shift knob, which helps with the height issue, as its threaded all the way through the knob, so the knob itself sits lower on the shaft. With the combination of a B&M shift adapter and the cut shaft, my shifts are pretty short... only about 2.5" of throw from front to back.
