question on replacing broken driver side Mirror

Hi guys,
I broke the driver side mirror. The motors are working only the ball and socket on which the mirror sits broke and it now shakes. I need to change it. I talked to the dealer and he told its $300 bucks. He told me that the whole mirror unit has to be replaced. Is that true?Too much for just a broken socket.

I found that you can order the specific broken part here in http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/. Found it for $50. My question is that the mirror a whole unit or one can open the encasing of the mirror and put the new part in and get it working.
I was looking at the Mitchell manual, they dont have any info about replacing this specific part.

btw I am newbie for CL. Its a 97 2.2 2D.

thanks,
shravan

Lucky you, I just completely replaced my pass mirror, and ordered my new assembly from those guys.

It all depends on what was broken on the mirror as to wether or not it all has to be replaced. Once you get the actual mirror off, its a real bitch to get back on, damn near impossible.

To order the whole mirror shiped is about 120 bucks. Installing it yourself is EASY. pop off the plastic cover, unscrew the 3 anchor screws, pop out the actuator plug (white female end, youll have to use pliars to bust out the top and bottom locks) put in the new mirror assembly, the new actuator will "lock" into position holding the mirror in place, and then recrew it in, reattach cover and viola, done.

Its really simple, should take like 15-30 mins pending how good you are with these things.

If you do order an entire assembly, then on the comments portion of your order put your year and color. The mirror will arrive preassembled and painted. Just install and go.

It is the $46 piece part 04 that I am looking at. But I think I also need the part 09 which is $21.

I think I will do what sarlacc23 did, get the whole preassembled part. Good that they send it prepainted. that would really help. I had a question though, how good is this website aucraautomotive service. are they nice people?

Dealers suck, those people just want to rip you off even after selling the car. I am sure any acura dealer would quote 300. They all are connected.

As things progress, I will keep you guys posted.

thanks for the quick reply though.

I ordered from them three times before. I ordered two parts for my prelude and three parts for my acura. They are pretty helpful in answering questions when I had it. I think it is a dealer or something that sells from thru the website. I can't really tell or try to find out. But generally you order, see a charge on ur cc. Then u get it in couple of days. All the stuff I ordered was well packaged and nicely factory sealed condition. Never got any mix up. There nutting fancy really about them, they get the job done, and in my book if ya gotta do that to get lower cost, then it is a . I think that is only place I know that has diagrams and can order online.
