Question on installing sway bars... can't fit! Hurt my hand too... :[

hey guys,

well i picked up those tanabe sways that my accord friend was selling. turns out its not a direct fit like i thought it would be (sways from 94-97 accord). they are the tanabe sustecs, i did a search but couldnt find exactly what i needed to do through all the old posts (sorry if i dint read clearly enough). i though this would be the next best thing to do.

anyone have these sways and know what to do? no custom brackets came with it, just the new bushings and stuff. if anyone has experience with them, please let me know as i want to get these guys on asap to correct some of my understeer. thank you.

I've read about them on here b4, I don't have them, i have suspension techniques that are a direct fit. All you should have to do is drill new mounting holes. You can use the stock mounting brackets and new bushings, you should be fine, just have to drill new holes if i recall

What brand did you go with? What's the size of the thickness of the sway bar in mm. compared to the stock one?

Cocoa dunno if you talking to me but heres the info

Suspension Tech Front n rear

Front: 27 mm
Rear: 21

I dunno the details of the stock ones... but the front wasent that much different then the ST one... the ST one was much more heavier and slightly thicker... as for the rear nice difference...

I'm asuming the stock ones were around 23mm in the front, and like 18mm in the rear? Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Tanabe's thicker in the rear?

That's a strut bar, is that what you bought that wouldn't fit? Where's pics of the sways?

doesn't our cars come with the stock strut under our hood? don't they do the same thing as an aftermarket one?

Yes they do the same, however they are pretty small and weak. Also, these AM ones bolt to the struts themselves, the stock one bolts just to the frame. It's more for looks anyway

So the sustec are thicker in the rear? Anyways, if you want good handling, stiffen the rear, not the front. Stiffer in the rear = more oversteer which will help neutralize our tendecy to understeer. My suggestion will be put in the rear sway only. That's what I plan on doing for my track setup. But there are a lot of ways of tuning suspension. You can throw all the sways on, and just tune the coils with the same in mind. Like I said, there are plenty of ways of fine tuning suspension. Hell, you can even use tire pressure to change the characteristics of the car's handling...

Anyways, can't wait to see pics...

Definitely. suspension has tons of aspects, i had my wrx buddy introduce me to all of that. i am currently running a slightly aggressive camber to correct some of the understeer (i noticed a significant change when i ran turnbull), it's about -1.7 in the front and -.5 in the rear. both are out of factory spec so my tires are eating like crazy, but its completely worth it. i'm also running some sweet ass tires cocoa, advano neova ad07's

I might do what you said about the rear sway bar only. Can't wait...

Does anyone else have opinions on just stiffening up the rear and leaving the front stock? I know the stock strut bar gives pretty decent support but I don't know much about the stock sway up front.

Change the front strut bar, no doubt. But as for the front sway, I'm personally going to hold off on that. But that's my preference. You just have to track the car with both set ups and tune it to your likeing.
