Question About HIDS- Which Can I Use?

Hey, I was thinking about gettin the Hella HID 7000K 9006 but i thought....if i was to find a wrecked lux. car....say a lexus or infiniti or somethin, would any of them have HIDS that i could pull out of them and that would work for me and our cars application?

Are their any cars out there that come stock with 9006 HID's?

VXCL is the expert in all this but from what I have learned all OEM HID applications use either a HID projector and a d2s bulb or they use the refelctor and a d2r bulb.

Hopefully VXCL will follow up on all this.

NO there is no such thing. they all use a d2r or d2s base. all kits rebase dr2 or dr2 bulbs. you would just have to fabricate a piece to keep the bulb in place in place. you will not find a wrecked car with a xenon system in it. they are taken way b4 they get to any junkyard. bodyshops take them and sell them on ebay. if u cant find any i sell you a pair of audi, bmw, etc ballasts for $175 a pair. ill beat any legit ebay auction.

My mom has had this same kit in her CL for two years and has not had a paorblem with it. The install is really easy, all plug and play, and the color is nice. The sellers website is at http://www.globalpremier.com/

I'm not saying this is the best, I have just seen it in action and it works well.

How does that 6000k HID compare to the 8500k here:

I would like to purchase an HID set, but the 8500k one is $50 more....is there a HUGE difference? Get back to me thanks

A kit is just a modified xenon d2r or d2s capsule with a ballast. a full setup would be retro fitting a xenon projector or reflector into your headlamp. they are designed to efficiently put the light onto the road unlike a halogen reflector. projectors are best becuase they concentrate the light and spread it evenly. this is the best setup. then xenon reflectors, and last a kit. sure a kit is better than oem halogen, but ur paying $400 for technology ur not even getting the full benefits from. also the higher the color temp (kelvins) the worse the light output. it looks cooler but doesnt function as well. i would recommend nothin more that 6000k. fyi all oem setups use 4100k!!!!! see how a true xenon setup makes a difference. the light on the road is pure white while the rest of us see blue/ purple color. you would have to buy 8000k bulbs to look as cool and ur lighting would be half ass compared to a true xenon setup. also any bulb rated over 6000k is a coated to appear the claimed rating. the gas isn't actually making the color. quality bulbs are osram and philips. most kits use cheap japense or tai bulbs, not to mention that most dont have the quality or standards when they rebase the xenon capsules. my advice to you is to buy oem xenon ballasts and some d2s bulbs off ebay. this will run you about $200-300 tops and they will be quality parts. i can get you ballasts for $170 a pair. bulbs i dont really get. you would just have to fabricate a small piece to keep the d2s bulb in place where it is most focused. u dont need to enlarge any openings becuase once you remove the 2 screws that hold the 9006 lock in place you get a nice 1" hole. the difference between a d2r and d2s bulb is that the d2r have a black strip to block some light. they are used in reflector setups like the 2nd gen cl, it helps to keep oncomming traffic from being blinded. d2s are used in projector setups like bmw and audi. most prefer d2s when they buy a kit or do any retro becuase they have no strip and emit more light. personally i like osram 4100k bulbs becuase they are more purple and emit more yellow on the road. this is good for rain. philips are more blue and slightly brighter on dry pavement, but slightly worse in the rain.

if u want to learn more go here
http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/

dont go wasting your money on kits. buy ballasts from me and support my cl! im about to recieve another members headlamps to do a xenon projector conversion so i will have access to a oem cl headlamp. i will fabricate correct mounts so all u got to do is pick up some d2s bulbs off ebay. Ill hook u up with ballasts and adapters for $215. score some bulbs for 50-70 and you got a quality setup under $300!!!!!!!!! or just make the adapters urself. sorry to say it but only fools buy a kit.

Ditto! I will be purchasing from you as well....after Christmas that is. Also I was aware that the higher the kelvins the less light output you get, but the Audi lights look damn bright and have the uncommon purplish hue to them at the right angle. What would a setup like that cost..?

NO! You DO NOT want a kit like this - the bulbs are coated blue. The bulbs in my 7000K kit are CLEAR. Coatings cut down the light.

I took a quick look in my Rosco swatch book (they make color gels for stage lighting, etc). #3204 Half Blue raises the color temperature of a light source 900K. It has a 50% light transmission rate. That's half the light output...

Def relates...stuff takes time, that's all.

I just ment lately I've got so much work junk to do (we have like 2 nights off in December - seriously) and it's getting cold - so I just wanted a quick swap for right now. The difference is def worth it too. I still might do a projector setup sometime. I dig the angel eyes, so I might hit ya up in the spring or so for some bimmer units.
