Question about the automatic

In the CL it goes..
P
R
N
D4
D3
2
1

That should be correct..i'm to lazy to go look in my car..anyways when I get a chance to race someone at a light I put it in 1 and go up the ladder till D4...does anyone else do this? also my main question is..would it be bad for the car to go down..lets say from D3 to 2..thanks to everyone who responds..

Pattern is correct!

I usually put it in D3, and let it rip! Once I get over 90 or so, then I shift to D4.

Going from D3 to D2 depends at what speed your going.

But it can be done then? or would it mess up the tranny or engine or something? i want to try it out..but i don't wanna hurt my car in the process..its like when someone tells you to not touch it cuz its hot..well i'm the kid who always touched it no matter what

i do engine breaking when it is icy, which seems to be a lot lately. i think it's okay for the car, i know that's what the dealership tells the people that do pick ups to do all the time. i just wouldn't downshift to 2 when your RPMS are at like 4000 in 3. but really, that should be a no brainer.

its an automatic, if you floor it, it will shift at the redline, or there about... if you hold it in gear, chances are is you are going over the redline, which isnt that great for the engine. Just keep it in D4.

It certainly puts extra wear and tear on your tranny, but within reason, it should be ok.

I'll downshift from D4-D3-D2-D1 if I have to break very fast. It helps with braking (overheating of rotors and pads).

Sounds like me...

The tranny will only down shift at certain RPM's, so you cant damage the engine downshifting, its smart enough not to over-rev the engine. I just dont see a point in up shifting when taking off.

Okay then

But does the car have an overspeed limiter anyway for redline? My dad claims that his 2000 3.2 TL has it. I still do not have a shop manual so I can't determine how it will behave.

Here's a question...How the hell is it that the TLs had the sport shifter before the CL? Same year...Yet the CL was over looked. What a bitch!

supposively the tranyy wont let u drop into a lower gear if the car if the engine will redline. i never tested it, but its there. and i u should just leave the car in d3 for racin because the auto will rev to redline before shiftin and u go through the first gears so fast that u shifting it wont help. however the tranny does seem to like to shift into 4th early so i leave it in d3 until its time. i drop gears in my car all the time to get power out of my 2.2. personally i dont give a shit if it breaks, its under warrenty and the manaul even says u can drive the car in that way. so its acura's prob not mine. i dont abuse the tranny but if im doin like say 50 ill drop into d3 and floor in instead if flooring it and then letting slowmatic drop into d3, but ur auto will do the same on its own.

when u race u shouldn't go up the ladder from 1-4 its slower. in my 3.0 i leave it on d4 then i take it up to a hundred and then when it shifts again i drop it back into 3rd till it hits about 115 then i let it go back into 4th.
