I remember reading that it's either 1.7 or 1.9 gallons remain when the light comes on.

Mine has close to 4 gallons left once the light comes on, because when I fill up it only takes 12-13 gallons. (17 gal tank)

in manual for 99 2.3 cl 5 speed saids 3.0 gallons left when light comes on. Somehow I don't trust it since when I park on a slight downward gradient, (front end lower than rear) my enginer has a hard time starting when it is close to empty. Or perhaps it is a different problem like a slowly dying ignition. Or I don't know what it is. ??

no its normal for the engine to chug a couple times before turning over with a near empty tank of gas.

DONT park on steep hills when you are on low on gas or the car will NOT start at all. Ive done it 3 times. twice i could let it roll to flat groung and it finaly started. The other time we had to pull it up the hill with my friends truck.

yea, the first time that happened to me I flipped thinking that my starter was dying....then i started to put 2 and 2 together and realized that unless the tank was empty, my engine fired right up...now i try and avoid letting my car slip below a quarter tank..dont want my baby to work any harder than it has to
