Push start button

Anyone ever thought of wiring up a push start button to our cars? We got this brand new 08 highlander and its got a push to start button and I think its awesome... so much easier than a key. Of course, that one is a bit more sophisticated, but I saw some 2.2CL push start buttons on ebay and I'm intrigued.

The installing of the push start looks fairly straight forward... My question is, is there a way to use the remote for our cars to enable the push start button to work without the key in the ignition? (which is what you have to do in most of the DIY guides--to disable the immobilizer) I am not at all familiar with car wiring which is why I'm asking you guys.

I mean... we have the luxury kind of car, why not add the push start? Or am I the only one that thinks they're cool?

im not really a fan on them unless they're the keyless ones. but in our case you would have to put in the key and turn it, then press the button. almost seems like more work. but if you make it keyless it won't be like the ones in lexus where it detects the keys near. it'll pretty much be push button and steal the car.

i think theyre cool, but i have no idea how you would do such a thing. id start by looking at diagrams of the ignition wiring and start figuring out what youll need.

What makes you say it won't be like the ones in the lexus where it detects the keys? That's exactly what I was wondering how to do

you would need a pretty sophisticated sensor for that plus the chipped key for that. the only way i can think of to bypass it would be similar to a remote start set where there is another ignition/keyspot hidden in the car with a key in it to bypass the immobilizer.

our 98-99 keys are chipped, but AFAIK thats only if the key is IN the cylinder, so theres that id think all you need is to wire in the switch to the ignition wire so as itll hold it on after the button is pressed until some sort of kill switch is triggered, all in all I think its not really worth all the effort, but if you wanna find a way, by all means knock yourself out

and having that plus the push button sure makes your car easier to steal, you'd have to do a fuel line cutoff switch in addition or some other protection

yup, I was planning back in the day to use my Viper remote start and wire a push button starter to that, tucked away as a harmless looking black button, that way I keep all the kill switches integrated into the system, but id have to turn the key anyways, so I just decided to can the whole idea
