pulleys

I started removing my old pulleys. I sucessfuly removed my PS pulley. I tried removing the alternator but nothing. I held back on the old pulley and turned the 22mm nut and the whole shaft spun. I tried holding on the pulley and on the 10mm bolt then turning the 22mm nut and kept spinning. I broke two 10mm rachets then finaly the bolt stripped. I even grinded out the whole pulley and nothing. I bought a new alternator. Im going to remove the 22mm nut with a electric air hammer. Anyone have any advice on removal. Im now especially worried about the crank. I heard its really torqued down. Anyone with any advice?

yea for that crank pulley your gonna need that special tool ( i forgot what it was called) a 20" hardened steel 1/2" extension (i snapped a regular craftsman extension and had to get the hardened steel ) get a 1/2" breaker bar (no rachets i blew one to pieces trying to get the crank off) and a five foot steel pipe and you should be good. that crank pulley bolt is torqued to 181 foot pounds and it is scary as hell trying to get it off.

well guess what guys
crank was the easiest
you can use the lug nut key which comes with your car
jammed a piece of metal in my flywheel thru the synch hole put the lug nut wrench in place and used my foot then wala. came right off
well long story short my alternator shaft bent on the way back home
i used Gates belts on both applications and the sizes recommended by UR
tomorrow i have to remove the alternator pulley and try to get another alternator and return the other one and say its defentive. btw i think the new belt broke

i also cut the shock towers and the SSPs dont knock no more. im happy about that
didnt get a chance to install the throttle body
ill post back tomorrow
thanks for the help people

belt didnt break
alternator pulley came loose
nut was completely loose and pulley shifted
the belt came off as it came loose
i tightened the nut and reinserted the belt
now the belt is rubbing against the side cover where timing belt is located
im thinking of removing the cover
any advice?

It's what UR recommended. I got the same brand and same model number they recommended. What are the disadvantages if I take the timing cover off?
