Problem shifting to 1st gear

Hey wassup everyone,

I been having problems shifting to 1st gear at a stop light. It get stuck even tough I put a lot of pressure on it. So is my clutch just old or something else is wrong with it. I have about 93,000 miles on my car and still havent replace the clutch yet. Thanks for the help.

might be your clutch or you might want to check your clutch fluid reservior in the hood bc if its low it might do that. its located right next to the brake fluid one.

I've had the same problem with my car since about 40,000 miles....and sometimes my 2nd gear grinds. as for the dealership, they wont do anything. your synch is probably out of wack. you need to take it to a transmission specialist to take care of that probably.....

Same thread in Car Talk with 2gen 6 speed. This happens to all cars with manual transmissions. Try moving the shifter into second then into first. Sometimes the syncros don't line up and shifting into a higher gear helps align them.

Yea i have had the same problem since like 60K. If you let the car roll or put it in second it should go into first

I have to put it into 2nd and then let off the clutch a little, so it engages the slightest bit. Then it slips right into 1st gear.
