problem

Hey everyone, when I accelerate on the highway is seems that there is a whining sound coming from the car. I ahve to turn off the a/c and the stereo to hear it but it is definitely there. As I accelerate it gets louder, but when I take my foot off the accelerator, it goes away until I press it down again. Any ideas on what it could be?

Also at the sme time, when I accelerate there seems to be another sound coming from the car. Sounds like a warped bicycle tire, only note as loud, but it only happens when I nhit the accelerator. Goes away when I take my foot off the pedal. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Do you have a sound system? I just installed mine and noticed a whining sound, only when I accelerate, but its gone when I turn the radio off. I think mine is sound interference. there's a way to get rid of it, but I havent had time to look up how.

I was getting a whining type noise outta my front tweeters. You could basically hear the engine thru the speakers. It ended up being that Acura had to replace the amp. So it had to do with the amp or the ground. Not sure if this is what u mean

yea even though u got a manual u could still be low on gear oil in the tranny causing the syncros to whine when accellerating. the bearings would normally be a pretty constant thing. or at like 30+ mph. or like said earlier the bearings in the alternator could be going out. just open ur hood and listen to the alternator. when its running.

Yeah but when I rev up a little or when I am idling, the whine isnt there. It is only I am in gear, that and I really dont hear it too much when I am in the city, that could be from the noise though. I hear it in 4th and fifth gear mostly. Could this still be the alternator? Or should I check into the boot being ripped? Is this a major problem or can I go for a while without fixing it.

Lastly, where is the gear oil dipstick located at? I ahve never checked it before. Thanks in advance for the help.

well i'd listen to the alternator thats the culprit on 90% of whinning issues, but it may be something else.

im not sure it is uaually a plug on the side of the tranny. remove the plug and the fluid should be right at the edge of the bottom of the hole. if not pur gear oil in untill the oil comes out a little. then reinstall the plug... also have someone sit in the car with it running and in neutral and push the clutch in and out with u listening to the tranny. if the throuout bearing is bad it will whine also. which is what ur checking for.

does anyone know what it sounds like when you need to have your timing belt changed? My car is at about 78000 miles now. Is it time?>

its recommended u change ur belt at 100k miles. it doesent make a sound when its about to go out. it just does. and thats bad mmmk. the squeek is the slave cylinder on the tranny. when the throuout bearing goes out it wines when u press the clutch in. it almost sounds like a loud powersteering pump. like on most fords.
