what the heck is the diference btwn premium and basic. I got my 22cl used last year... and i still do not know the diference. i know i got leather, wood all around... someone tell me please!

Hey bro. Welcome to the club. When I picked up a '99 3.0 in November I didn't know that there was another trim package. Until I had an install on a '97. (I'm a Car Audio Supervisor at B.B. in Washington State) When I started tearing into it I noticed that it was missing things that mine came with. Heated seats, heated mirrors, 6 way electric seats (it had 4 way), the amped Bose package, and about 60hp. (it was a 4cyl). I think if your really into making your own mods stick with the basic. Let me recall the last time I used the heated mirrors. One more tidbit for readers... Before I set foot in this car I thought BOSE was supposed to suck ass. But It really whales! I'm impressed with this system. You'd really have to spend around a G to get the same sound out of product I sell on a regular days work. Props to BOSE on this one. Or Honda for being so picky.

 

And Homelink as posted previously. This feature is so cool. It lets you program RF devices to an installed console by your domelight. Example.... When I pull the car out of the garage I can push button 1 on the console to close the garage door. Button 2 raises and lowers the other garage door. And you don't need the clunky garage door openers! Tight huh?!

 

A high powered cd player, $100 6x9's and $70 coaxils make the Bose system look like junk....

For $1000.00 (without install) you can be slammin with a sub, amp, head unit, replacement 6x9's and some coaxils.

 

ic... well i got the basic...and i got the 4 way seat hehhe.. ok now i know.. hehhe... i like my basic... 5 spd i have no need for any heated crap... i'm in s fla. I got my wife an MDX as a wedding present... that came with heated seats... WHAT A WASTE!

 

i used heated seats almost every day in the winter when i got my car

it also depends on the year of the car- A LOT changed in 98
my 97 is premium package - but no heated seats, mirrors, or homelink- maybe the 6s got the seats but i'm not sure

 

i like my heated seats
makes me feel all warm inside on a cold day

 

the 97 2.2 premiums got leather and power seats, thats about it.

 

Sorry guys. I've got to defend myself on this topic. Sorry TEX. I'm not sure what I was thinkin' when I said that. BOSE! I must be out of my damn mind. Of course you can go to your local swap-meet and pick up some speakers and a deck. Pop 'em in and blow the doors off a factory BOSE 3.0CL. Sorry for the confusion. Sometimes my 7 years as a Car Audio Expert lead me down the wrong path. Even my MECP certification might steer me south. FYI: did you know that the highest powered CD player manufactured currently under $800 is a Sony. At a whopping 20 watts per channel RMS I bet this would smoke the BOSE amplifier at 62 watts per channel. Better know who you're foxin' with before your mouth starts flowin'.:P

 

Dude I sure hope you are kidding. The first gen Bose amp is 25watts per channel. My $250.00 Sony CDX-M630 is 52x4, or 23.5x4 RMS.

I sure hope you are kidding. Especially if you are MECP cert, and work at Best Buy. I was MECP 1st Class cert for 2 years, and have been in car audio for over 10, including competing in the Pro 601+ USAC circuit for two years (back in 95-97). Let's not compare resumes....

My point is, again, that the factory BOSE system in the CL can be repalced with aftermarket head unit, speakers, and an amp for less than $1000.00 and it sounds 300% better. My car is proof.

This is why I don't let retailers or thier installers advise me on my purchases....

the bose deck and speakers that came with my 98 premium sucked. I has to have the bass on -5 if you turned it up loud at all or the speakers sounded like they were gonna blow!

 

I had the bose system in my corvette. I replaced it for 568 bucks installed!! It was three times better once i took the BLOSE out. Bose is such crap. They use a bunch of trickery to make things sound different and better than they really are. The music out of a bose system is so colored it is almost unbearable to listen to. Their home stuff is even worse. I won't have it in my car or my house. Anyone who thinks the Bose is decent knows nothing about true Hi-Fi. On another note all this talk about watts per channel. Thats all a joke. Those ratings mean nothing. Take a meter and actually measure what you are really getting out of something labeled 45X4 for instance and you will find it is really pumping 12-15 watts. This is why i won't let others pick or install audio equipment for me. I let them try and just take out the bose system in my vette and 15 hours later i had to do it myself. Bottom line: Bose sucks and so do 95% of installers at chain shops.

 

 

Sorry about dragging out the BOSE this far. I didn't mean to start a negative thread. It's obvious that we all have different ideas about what sounds good. My taste in sound has changed dramatically in the last 4 years. I was a total bass-head and had no idea about harmonics and distortion. Now I cringe at amplified low frequency-mobiles. If you're looking for BASS... BOSE is not where you're gonna find it. I think that most of us on this board need a bumpin' system. You won't find that in most factory systems. Especially this one. Sorry TEX. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

 

woah... i did not know this thread would end up this way... can we all just get along.... hehehe..... anyhow.. since all u stereo dudes are reading this thread.... my tweeters are not working in the front... should i spend 60 bucks for brand name ones or pay 26 bucks for some pepboys brand tweeters.. this is temporary of course iwill be updating to a full sound system once my CC is cleared out

 

Don't come onto this board or any board with people who know about systems and car audio and flash your fancy best buy badge around if thats what you meant by BB. BB is a fucking joke. I worked in the car audio department there for 4 years before i really started thinking for myself and relized that no employee of car audio OR car install had any idea what they were talkin about. You can wire shit (poorly) , but that doesn't mean you understand it. Thats all MECP says as far as best buy is concerned.

 

Never I don't get ruffled, just like to go at it with folks here from time to time. Nothing but love for the CL'ers

BTW, your right, bass alone is garbabe. Need that nice RTA curve, full frequency specturm with mellow uppers, and tight lows. And keep the cheap screaming mid-range outta here!

I am a jazz aficionado, so full range consistancy and accuracy is a must!

I agree with you ex-Best Buy employees. Best Buy car audio is a joke. But if they're willing to pay me as much as they are I'm willing to waste a bit of their time. My biggest car audio purchase from Best Buy was a spool of Monster Cable wire. You'll never catch me with crap. I was an Asst. Manager for CarToys for almost 3 years. They still give me the hook up. It's funny to hear customers come in that had been to CarToys first. They always complain about how expensive their stuff is. I love to ask the question, "Do you want good sound or do you want a cheap stereo?" On the Bose topic though... I still can't say that Bose is poop. It's definately not bad for a factory installed setup. The stereo in my CL will stay for the time being. I have a '94 EX Civic that craves attention. When I want good sound I just drive that to work. MB Quart picked up the tab on that one. 6in seperates up front. 6in coax in back. Phoenix for power. Lots of Dynamat and Monster Cable.
