the preludes come with an open differential stock.
if you are thinking about the Type SH tranny, i wouldnt bother. extra weight + extra wiring doesnt add up. not to mention that the H22 trannys are usually more expensive than the H23 tranny's. the prelude tranny's also have shorter gears than the accord trannys.
but, they do bolt up without any modifications. the accord trannys are cheaper tho.
hope this helps

If you put a h22 tranny on a 2.3 or 2.2 cl your have shorter gears but you'll loose tons of top end power and your car won't be able to go faster than about 110 mph or so. The h23 tranny has shorter gears than f23, f22 tranny but longer then the h22 tranny so that would be your best bet. No mods are necessary to install either tranny into your car, it simply bolts in like stock.
You can find jdm h22 trannys with lsd for about $800-$1,000 for sale. Or you can get and aftermarket lsd like kaaz or phantom grip. The aftermarket lsd can be installed on either of the 3 trannys. If you still want to get an h22 tranny and not be able to go faster then 110 mph then a 4th gen tranny would be your best bet and if you get a 5th gen make your its not of an SH. The SH uses a tranny control unit to control it and it would be almost imossible to install it in a CL.

Hmmm..no wonder. I haven't drivin my 89 Prelude in about two weeks. Its just been sitting in the garage after i bought the CL. And today, i took it around the block and ran it hard..mann...i felt like i was driving a sports car.. The shifting felt a lot shorter than the CL. Althought the CL's is much more smoother, and the prelude's clutch is hard as hell.. I never realized that the prelude had such a shorter throw compared to the CL.. I thought the prelude's were pretty long.. Oh well, thought I'd just share

You WILL be able to go WELL over 110mph!!! I have had my 5th gen Lude over 135mph! if he is modding the car have no worrys about the top end speed. The tranny is good for over 150mph.

Yes the quick will be able to accelerate quicker with the h22 tranny but it won't go past 110.

Ok just cerious it is the fact of HP that the car will not go faster than 110? A matter of speed limiter? I just find it hard to beleave casue my buddies Civic Si, with only 160hp and 110ft lbs makes it well over 100 mph's?!
