Possible 3.0CL transmission problem

Well, lately, some friends has been on my ride, and they were all saying howcome my car just stumps or like you can feel the transmission is not very smooth. Its getting worst now. I keep on telling myself that this car's transmission just sucks.

if i shift manually from D1 to D3 or D4, and I change according to certain rpms at each gear, it is smoother than straight D4 acceleration. The transmisison even stomps when it downshift itself as i slow down. Is this the sign of the infamous transmission fairlure? The stomping or unsmoothnss occur both when i accelerate and decelerate.

Any insight onto this tranny problem?

The automatic trannys in the cl's have never been that smooth, there is always a slight hesitation mid gear. I thought something was wrong with mine, so I took it to the dealer and they gave me the usual everything is fine nod. So I demanded to test drive 3 of the 3.0's they had on heir lot to see if there was a difference in shifting and there wasn't. Also I have a 97 Civic that does the same thing it's an ex auto. If it's not wanting ro shift into the next gear thats when you have a problem.

that happened to me too. I thought it was fine until my friend sat in my car and told me it wasn't normal. Well, to make a story short. My tranny started slipping first and second, so the dealer is getting me a new tranny now. I have 47k on my car. And my warranty is almost up, so good thing it happened before. Or else i would be paying for it.

My tranny does the same thing, from PARK to DRIVE it jumps when the engine/tranny is cold... But when it is warmed up I don't have that problem anymore. Should I worry about it or is it normal?

THat sounds familiar. Yes, I don't recall having such problem in Vancouver, obviously Vancouver is a much WARMER and NICER place to live !

But ever since i move to toronto, my tranny has been horrible. It is embarrassing.. my friends 98 lexus ES300 owner, he was saying how he can beat me. I thought maybe its worth a try since its RWD, but then after he drive it.. he go.."so much power... ".. yet tranny sucks !! they areall complaining about my tranny!! I swear the 3.0 vtec engine is awesome, but the tranny? Its worst than dodge stratus i had before.

Will I beat the ES300 for sure ? its a 98. I ride in his lexus before, its so so solid and don't feel fast at all at high speed.

It's FWD, not RWD. If he makes fun of your car, just tell him he drives a Camry (sure he can say u have an accord, but at least it doesn't look like one!) .

P.S. My 98 3.0 tranny is not so smooth anymore.

Man.. everyone who replied all have this unsmooth transmission problem. Maybe there is some action that can be taken from this. Its so unfair, this car looks so exquisite... and so elegant, but fuck, when you sit in there, it feels not very solid, engine is fantastic, the vtec, and suspension and the whole car feel so soft..not solid at all.

Anyways, maybe we need to start something those CL-S guys are doing... some kind of legal actoin ? hehe

dealer says it is NOT... repeat NOT normal....
the only thing that is normal are very hard shifts.. not hops out of park!!!!

My car is at the dealer NOW.. so I will keep you posted!

I wonder if I'm experiencing the same thing. I had the dealer check it out a couple months after I bought it. They said nothing was wrong. I've been just living with it for the past two years now. I'm wondering if something really is fishy!

I notice that the there's a slight pulsation in the gas peddle when you start off the line right under 2000 RPM. Is this common? Could it be vibration from the transmission? It's as if the car wants to shift, but it's not at the shift point yet.

I just called the dealer too see what's going on with my Tranny, (went in for a replacement). They told me the tranny haven't come in yet, and it's been in there for a week already. They told me it's gonna be another 2 weeks - 2 months. DAMN!! HOw long does it take them to get a tranny in?? I Want my car back!!!

I have the 3.0 and mine is starting to have harder shifts but I wouldnt call it "not solid". I think it started when I put on my rims. Are any of you riding on stock wheels? Tranny's are sensitive. If the total diameter of you aftermarket rims and tires set up is even a hair bigger it could make a slight difference. I know my aftermarket set up is a touch bigger than the stock setup. I find my shifting to be normal because thats the way Honda automatic tranny's are. (atleast that is what I am convincing myself). Did you guys change your tranny fluid at 30k miles or are you still running the fluid that came with the car?
If you are bringing your car to the dealer, maybe you should put your stock wheels on to avoid an argument with voiding warranty because of aftermarket wheels.
