Please help...Oil leak

I recently changed my oil and now i have a oil leak from the actual oil plug hole itself. Im wondering if anyone has had this problem or if anyone knows where i can find a new oil plug. Hopefully I just need to replace that and its just the gasket on the plug. Thanks for your help

Just go to the dealership and pick up a new drain plug, they're like a buck or so.

I'm assuming your talking about the drain bolt. Did you replace the washer ("gasket on the plug"). Every time you break that bolt loose, you should change the washer.

Sounds like a great idea... until, you realize, how safe can that be? Would vibrations cause the thing to open? How about if someone reached under your car and released it (problaby unlikely but it can be an inconvenience). Some things to think about.

It depends on how fast it's leaking.

You may only need the washer and not the whole drainplug. Another option is to go to your local autoparts store and find a replacement. Then you can decide if you should keep this replacement or drive the 150 miles to purchase the OEM plug, washer, or both.

If you are worried about the dealership having the part, call before you make your trek. These parts are usually stocked, unless there's been a rash of backyard mechanics ruining their drainplugs.

You are certain it is the drainplug (the bolt)? And not the oilpan.

Info Provided by Acura Owners Link.

What's a "crush washer" and why is it important to my Acura?
As an Acura owner, the crush washer you should be most concerned with is the one that must be replaced every time you change your motor oil. This crush washer fits between your oil pan and the drain plug. It is a one-time-use washer.
When a new washer is installed and the drain plug is tightened, this washer "crushes" to form a very tight seal, thereby preventing motor oil leaks without overstressing the oil pan threads.
Oil changers who are not aware of its importance may think it's OK to re-use this washer. Since it has already been crushed, it will not collapse further. As a result, the installer may overtighten the drain plug to get a tight fit. This can eventually lead to stripped threads in the oil pan -- a very expensive repair.
This is another example of why your Acura dealer is the easy choice for your service needs. Acura dealers know your Acura best.

When I bought my CL used it had a metal washer around the drain plug. I changed my own oil and it started to leak the next week. After I tightened the plug (this time a little harder) I have not had any more problems. Its your choice to get a metal washer or the acura crush washer. Either one works the same.

Rippin: to answer your question; the Honda is the same drain plug and washer.
As a tip: in an emergancy a 14mm spark plug is the same size thread as the drain plug. I got a guy to town after his drain plug had gotten lost...long story about stupid things people do.

Get the metal washer thats what alot mechanics will put on your car everytime you get your oil changed at like jiffy lube or places like that. Ive used the same one for like a year now and not had any problems and I dont need to keep tightening it tighter. You can use a plug or washer from any autoparts store. If somebody told me the nearest acura/honda dealer was 150 miles away I would laugh all the way to pepboys.

another tip... get your drainplug magnetized. you'd be surprised how many small metal filings will be clinging to it when you change oil again.

I'd like to know how to do that, too.

My just fixed a leak in mine. I didn't tighten my oil filter enough last time I changed my oil. You can check that for $0.00.

The crush washer can take many oil changes as long as you don't heavy fist the drain plug. I replace mine about every year and I change my oil ebery 5months/5k miles. But once those crush washer are heavy fisted on they don't work as well. So you might just need to replace that.

The last time I went into my Acura dealer, I took a handfull of crush washers that were sitting in a bowl at the parts counter. The Parts rep told me "go ahead".

I have enough to last for years!

BTW: My current drain plug is from my local Honda dealer. The same freakin' plug that's in our CL is the one on the Accord. I saved a buck or 2 over Acura's price for the same item!

EDIT: How do you magnetize the drain plug???

I love the fact that most of the accord parts can fit on our CL's but the same part at an Acura dealer is more expensive. Though I found a few things that don't cross over. The part I mentioned in the speedometer thread doesn't corss over.

And yeah how do you magentize your drain plug, I know you can buy one from like spoon sports.
