Question paint job...

whats up guys........well i got a silver 98 3.0 and overall the paint is pretty new looking.....very very few light little scratches......but the other day i had some bitch in my ride....and she opened the door and hit another car......its pretty small.....little less than a half inch.....but the paint cracked a tiny bit.....im wondering.......how are the paint jobs at maaco....ive heard bad news about them.....? i heard it would only be about 3 - 400 bucks for a paint job.....anyone have any opinions..........

U get what u pay for man, maaco is as bad as scheib. The reason the cost is so cheap, is because they don't do a lot of prep work, which leads to orange peal on your paint. If I were u, I'd do what i did, and just wetsand down the area and use a can of plastikote primer, and a can of plastikote stock honda paint, and just spray it yourself. Just tape off around it, wetsand the dinged area, and a little extra to blend, and spray a bit. It's like a $20 fix total, all u need is some 3m wet/dry sand paper, 800 grit or 1000 grit i believe. A can of primer, can of honda matched paint from a car parts store, and a can of import clear coat, all plastikote, at least that's what i used, and it came out perfect. My first attempt at major body work, but it came out flawless.

Here's a link to a thread with pics of my fixer upper, also in that post is a link to my original thread.

NEVER EVER go with macco. They use nason paints which are total shit!. A while back we took an old Saab 900 turbo to get it repainted. Although we did not care for how it really turned out and just needed to have it resprayed due to some body parts being replaced, when it came out, it was shinny as hell! but after 2 weeks, it was dull and you could not get that shine back. I spent 3 hours trying to buff and wax the hood, and it still was dull.

NO MAACO...friend of mine had his bronco painted there and after about 3 months it was so dull it looked like it was painted with a can of krylon. Find a good body shop. It'll cost a little more but it'll be worth it in the end.

Me mum hit a pole with her TL a while back stipping the paint off the rear bumper leaving about a 5x8 inch hole in the paint. a friend in out body shop charged $100 to get it painted again with a single stage paint style (mix paint and clear together -> not as shiney, but cant tell the dif.)

if you're looking at doing the whole car and you're going to be in miami for the next month or so, I'll be repainting my car soon with a friend of mine... I'll show you what he does then if you like I can give you his information.

edit: nevermind, you're gone already lol
