Paint damage?

OK so today I was taking finals, and my car got egged. My car alarm pager went off to let me know somthing was wrong but i was not allowed to leave the classroom, beings that I had already started the final. THe car had egg sit on the pain for like 2 hours, but as soon as I got done wiht the finals I drove it to a car wash. It was raining on and off so the egg did not dry on the paint, however I was wondering what kind of paint damage can come from this... and is there anything I can do to prevent it (the paint damage).

Also, one of the eggs was thrown quite forcefully into the trunk and created an interesting crack pattern, almost like the one when a large rock hits the windshiled and it shatters out. Is there anyway to fix this?

Lastly if I find the bastards that did it what are my options, ones that wont end up with me having an assualt charge.... its a good thing that I was not there to watch this, it would be a different situation, I know I would have let loose on someone.

that sucks man, sorry that you car got hit. Honestly besides washing the car rigourously, I really dont think that there is anything that you can do to help it.

Getting the egg off quickly will help with damage, but it can "fade" the paint. I would file a police report for vandalism then go talk to my insurance.

I had the same thing happen to my integra, but I didn't know so it baked on for about a day and totally ruined the paint in a lot of spots. But my insurance covered it to get fixed.

Hope this helps

well its good that u got the egg off asap, that helps a lot...if you notice a mark still left on the paint, it can maybe be removed with coating remover, or maybe even buffed out....as for the mark/crack it left, sorry thats there to stay, no way you can fix that short of repainting it

The "crack" is proabably your clearcoat; that can happen when a car gets a dent in it. The metal stretches, but the thick clearcoat does'nt, so it "shatters." It can also be from just the sheer force of the egg. Usually eggs will ruin paint when the sun hits it. It reacts with the acids in the egg and causes a bleaching effect. If it was overcast and rainy, you should be O.K.

Thanks for all of the responses, I am going into a body shop to inquire how much it would cost to have my car repainted in the areas where the eggs did damage, mainly the hood and the trunk. Also, the people who did it were bragging and it soon got back to me. When I get an estimate we are going to sue for damages. I am just happy that there was not more damage done, and that it was overcast and rainy.
