Have a strange problem... when my drivers door is open, the indicator on the overhead view of the car on the speedometer dash does not light up.

What makes it weird is that all the lights on the little overhead map light up when i start up the car, so I know the bulbs are working. Second, when I press the little button on the inside of the door jamb, it makes the courteousy light go off, so I know that the switch is working!

What else could be wrong?

 

Whoa...im totaly confused but it sounds like you have some definitly wiring issues...So let me get this straight:
When the door is open, the little door light on the instrument cluster dosnt light up, but when you start the car, the overhead map lights come on?

 

what i meant by that is whenever you first start your car, most of the test lights come for like two seconds, then go off. all the lights in the car door indicators come on for a second, so all the bulbs are OK in that cluster.

 

did you check to see if that lil button is stuck?

 

the button seems fine, it pops out when the door is open, and if i push it in, i can see the courteousy light near the bottom of the door go off, so i know that it is hooked up properly... unless these is some other wire or connection that goes to the main panel? anybody know?

 

I would bet there is more to that mechanism than just the switch that turns off the courtesy light. I'm not sure why this is happening, but it'll probably be expensive to find the cause and repair it, so I'd just learn to live with it.

not really... saving up for a new audio setup atm

 

just make sure your dome light is set at OPEN so when ur door is open YOU KNOW ITS OPEN
