Oh No My Tranny!!!!!

I was driving on Sunday and since acl hasnt been up a lot its hard to post at all

But I was driving and all of a sudden it would try to shift but it was feeling like it was having trouble then all the car would do is rev in gear and thats it, so i down shifted into d3 and then d3 did the same thing and then it went out then 2 went out then 1.

This all happened at 1130pm and i was 400yrds from my house and I had to then push the car 400 yrds by myself and steer it by myself and then trying to get it up the driveway of the apt complex i live at was the hardest cause i would get to the top and then the car would roll back, we have a gate to get into the complex so i had to push the car, open the gate and steer at the same time

but lucky i got home ok

but i have smelt the tranny fluid and it smells burnt and it makes a loud clunk when i put it into park and then it makes a weird noise when i start the car, its hard to explain but its not right

anyone tell me what this would run them to do theirs cause the places out here i got quoted 1500-2000 and thats not if there is anything wrong or broken with it, then it would be more and thats to have it rebuilt the 1500-2000, the acura dealer wants 3600 plus 700 in labor :thumbsdn:

but post your prices you have paid for your tranny and where you got it from and if ther is a website that would help too

thanks

On my onld car (prelude) the tranny went out and it cost 1500 to fix it at a mom and pop auto service shop, the dealer wanted over 3000. Its not cheap to fix the tranny. If you had a 2.2 or 2.3 i would say just do a h22 swap.

I need to get rid of this POS too before mine dies (again). When the first one went I found a used one online with 40K miles on it for $900. I then got a shop to do the swap for about $3 or 400, but after I had already owed AAMCO $450 for taking the old one apart (decided they wanted $2500 to rebuild instead of $1500 quoted).

I would advise going the used route and trying to get a warranty on it. Talk to junkyards or tranny guys who can call around for you.

$1750 at Aamco Transmissions. Will never be like new, but still good. From now on with a rebuilt just know you're gonna have to let your car really warm up, or it'll jerk.

Good luck. I recommend driving it hard after you get it rebuilt by Aamco as it has a one year warranty. If anything else should go wrong they fix it free of charge nationwide. All I'm saying is don't wait till the warranty is almost over and then go and have the high RPM fun. Fucked myself over!!!

If you want to avoid anymore tranny probs after getting it rebuilt, you should install a tranny cooler that will prolong it for years!!! And you can worry less about it going again. Damn!! A tranny cooler can go a long way and damn Acura can't even include it when selling the car??? Would've save them so damn much.

Later,
James
