Off topic-Legend II

I'm reserching this car and I may be in the market to buy one.

I need some honest opinions, experiences, and knowledge on the 2nd Gen Legend L or LS coupes. I've posted a similar question on legend.org but I'm sure anything I get back will be bias.

Is the engine VTEC?

So wait.,..y are u gettin rid of the CL and gettin a Legend...The LS is what u need...get the LS if your going to get one...i almost got one before i got my cl...they have more options our cls dont...The LS has the windows in the rear that open, and automatic door shuters (so if the door barly gets shut, it shuts it all the way for u...sound like a vaccume or somethin)...i mean all and all, their good cars...GET THE LS...i donno why they didnt leave the options from the Legend LS on our CL's...maybe they had problems with the other stuff on the LS that the CL dosnt have??

Oh, i donno aboyut vtec or not...i think the LS is...and its more HP than the CL...(i think 40 more hp)

From what I've read so far, the Legend evolved in to the RL of today. Around the world, it's still known as the Legend, except for in N.America, it became the RL. Dunno, I guess the guys at Acura N.America marketing wanted to keep the higher models with two-lettered names. Who knows.....

I just know that back in the day, the Legend LS coupe and GS sedan were Kings of the street.

I still haven't made up my mind about trading in my 3.0 CL, it's still my baby. Need to gather all the facts before I decide.

As far as looks, the Legend LS is sweet! But I don't know about the engine though. I don't believe they were VTEC's then, just "Type II". A six speed tranny would be nice though. Just wonder that engine.

How about the 5 cylinder Vigor, now those were a rarity. They evolved into the now "TL". Kind of wierd to see the evolution of the Acura's and the splitting of genes, ex. TSX.

I used to own a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe LS. All is can say about that car is: AWESOME. It was my favorite car that I have ever driven. The engine from 1991-1993 is Type I 3.2 V6 with 200 hp. In 1994 & 1995, the legends had the option of the Type II engine. It was a 3.2 V6, but it had 230 hp. This engine was also offered with a 6 speed manual tranny. I don't think that those engines were VTECs. The 6-speed car will scream. They are still around with under 100K miles, but they are hard to find, especially the 94-95 models.

My car was extremely fast and when I sold it, it had around 186K miles on it. I got compliments on it everywhere I went. In 1999 when I sold it, I thought the 3.0CL would be a good replacement. It is by far not equivalent to the Legend. My mom purchased a new 3.5RL in 1999, and it is more of a comparision to the Legend. Although it is not as fast as the Legends, it still seems like it has the build quality that the original Legends have. It is big, smooth, quite, and luxurious. It would be great if it had a V8 though.

My recommendation for a Legend is only a 1994-95 with the Type II engine. The 6-speed would be awesome, but good luck trying to find one. Your best bet is Ebay. They are on there occasionally for around 10-12K.

Thanks dyar1 for your first hand experience. Type II engine is what I meant.

Yes, 94-95 LS is what I am leaning towards. Six-speed would be ideal.

Carmax did have a 94 LS, auto, 76k mi, in Champagne gold. But when Dulles Carmax call Richmond Carmax about a transfer, Richmond said they were gonna auction it off cause "something" was wrong with it...after they had put it up their website for sale. I think someone at Richmond Carmax wanted the car for themselves.

I guess if I don't find exactly what I want, then I won't get rid of my 3.0CL.

I got my 92 Coupe LS to 145 and it was still going ! I slowed down b/c it scared the shit out of me ! I am sure that if mine with 200 hp will go that fast, then the 230 will go even faster !

Here's the low down on G2 Legend drive trains:

91-92 Coupes: 200 HP Type I engine, 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.

91-95 L and LS Sedans: 200 HP Type 1 engine, 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.

93-95 Coupes: 230 HP Type II engine, 4 speed auto or 6 speed manual.

94-95 GS Sedans:230 HP Type II engine, 4 speed auto or 6 speed manual.

If performance is your goal search out a 93 L coupe. It is the lightest. A 95 LS coupe 6 spd is considered the most desireable among Legend owners.

I've seen pictures of Type II speedos (160 MPH) buried. These cars are rock solid at speed.

The only drawback to the Legend is the lack of aftermarket support.

The engines are not V-TEC but they do have a 3 stage intake manifold and does that bay wail when the 3rd stage opens at 4K.

Cool info.

I just like the Legend II styling and options. I may have to settle for an auto though.

I would consider a used 2nd Gen CL but they're gonna discontinue them next year I think, and the sport-shift tranny has a lot of problems.

I think the Legend II turns more heads

You can more info from the legend Forum
http://www.legend-forum.com/vbulletin/

The Legend.org forum is the old site which isn't nearly as active as the main one (www.acura-legend.com)

good luck
