you only need the short block. dont get the full engine, because their head has a 2 rocker vtec system while ours has a 3 rocker system....meaning vtec in that car would suck. you'll get better gains leaving your stock head on there. it's a direct fit and no mods would be needed for it to fit your stock J30a1 head. as for mount issues, i'll find that out soon once it goes in my car. but as for the accords, they've had none. but then again our cars are built off the 94-97 accord chasis (5th gen), while the 6th gens are the same as the cls whom have done the swaps already....

with the short block, you're looking at around around 40+ more lbs of torque in the low end and roughly 20+ more whp.

But to help you out tremendously, here are 20+ pages on the custom swaps we could have done to our cars if you have the $$$$$. All this power with a shitty tranny is worthless. You'll have to look into the 6 speed swap, or the Dr evil tranny swap if you plan on doing anything that will result in higher hp as these swaps. Our tranny can only take so much abuse. For now, you could go with redline syntetic atf to help keep your tranny alive a bit longer.

Here is a thread of what is needed if you ever want to do the CLS Cam swap into your J30 head.

holy moly....we're talkin about the 2.3 engine.....sorry thought you had the J30A1.....

Umm...mmm...you need yourself the whole car if that. I don't know what it's going to take for it to fit in your engine compartment, but it wont be worth the money. You'd be better off trading it in for the 3.0CL if you want to attempt this swap. But then again, you could prove me wrong if you got connects and know what you're doing.

If you were to do this swap in the 3.0CL...you'd keep YOUR SOTCK HEAD (J30A1 head), and buy the oddysey short block (J35A4). The short block is the bottom half of the engine, a long block is the WHOLE engine. You only need the short block if doing this with the 3.0 CL....for you, you need the whole thing, engine, trans, ecu, ...everything...

seriously, go with the H22....you can find those for cheap...tell your dad's friend to save you the next H22 that comes along the way...and then you can get everything you need outta that car...
