ODBII Disable (ECU reset w/o pulling fuse)

Added a ODBII Disable to my web site. Thought you guys might want to see.

With this little switch

I can make my ECU forget everything its ever learned every time I turn the car off. (Like pulling the fuse under the hood)

If you look between the glove box and the dash with the glove box opened you'll see two holes. I use one of these so no cutting/drilling was required.

I included a service manual page for the 97 2.2 just so eveyone knows which wires are which.

dust, resetting the ECU allows it to instantly "learn" the capabilities of the motor. It'll eventually pick it up in 2 weeks or so after you add a new mod, but if you want it to learn it right away and optimize settings (being very general here) for it, then you gotta reset it.

Very cool! I did not know this! I'm glad I belong to this site. I've learned so damn much in the past few months!

Oh, and you don't really have to do niedejb's mod to reset your ECU. You can just unplug the negative terminal on the battery and let the car sit overnight when you go to bed. Then reconnect it in the morning, start it, and let it warm up. Don't touch the gas when this is happening. You should be able to see the motor rev slightly as it plays with the settings. The motor is warm when the cooling fans kick in. Drive away & have fun!

The ecu (ODBII only) modifies timing, fuel/air ratio, etc. based on how you drive and performance of the engine itself.

The ecu can correct for many mods and eventually make them obsolete. This corrects for the ecu "learning".

I get a dramatic difference when resetting my ecu due to cam timing, fuel pressure, and secondary O2 sensor disabling.

Not sure if this will benefit everyone. Heavily modded CL's might look into it. Next time on a dyno I'll reset it (after leaving it on 2 wks or so) to quantify the benefit.

You can do the battery thing, but you lose your radio codes, stations, climate control setting, clock, etc.

I think most manufactures tell you to disconnect the battery before installing any aftermarket part. Most people assume its a safety issue, but I think the manufacturer is betting the ecu reset will add to the noticed performance gain.

Cool!

I saw this on ntpog too. Good Job.

I found the article on OBD2 very interesting....do you personally believe the OBD2 computer "corrects" mods?

thanks

Yep.

Got tired of pulling fuse all the time.

I dont believe in the letting the car warm up stuff after resetting.

I just start up and drive away now.

Love it.....
