Not another brake related problem!

What up people,
I'm doubt if any of you guys remember but a while back i did a thread on a brake light coming on. I had a mantainence done on my car and I brought it up. The brake fluid was fine and the mechanic figured that the cap on the brake fluid was loose. He said to take it out every once and a while, put it back in, and it should turn off the brake light.
Brakes still work fine......except this morning! Last night they were straight, now they seem very soft and I pretty much have to press to the floor to brake properly.

Is this a common thing to happen in a '98 with around 72,000?

thankx for any of ur input

I had a problem with my cap once. It was making my brake light on the instrument cluster go on. Took it off and put it back on. Light never came back. Had a new cap, but never used it. BUT, it never affected my brake pedal. Take it back in. Perhaps there is some air in the lines.

brake fluid cap off is a big deal becuase if it is raining or humid out the brake fluid absorbs moisture when then ends up in ur pistons and ruins things.

hmm...i really hope that's the reason. It did rain the night b4 but it's rained many other nights here and I've never had this problem. I drove it again around lunch time and the problem was still there.

Cvacuracl I hope that ain't the case cause that sounds like big bucks.

brake shopp will mollest u in prices. if the guy u brought it to didnt charge u to reseat the cap, then he seems to be somewhat of an honest guy. so i would take it back to him.

Just came back from the mechanic (break place) and they said it was the left rear caliper. I saw it myself and it was drenched in fluid. He couldn't find the exact problem but he assumed to get a whole new caliper.
Worth it from a dealer or should I take my chance and buy it online?
