New here..Security System question

Hi Guys,

This is such a great forum and friendly community and I am glad to be part of it.
I am about to buy a 1997 3.0 CL.
Black exterior. 88K.

The keyless entry system works fine (lock, unlock, trunk release etc).
I tested the security system but it is not working.
I armed it using remote and the light near the window starts blinking.
I opened it using the key with out disarming using the remote. It opened normally without sounding the alarm.

What might be wrong? is it a blown fuse?

Thanks.

John

This is normal. The stock alarm only sets off when someone opens the door from the inside. So even if they brake your window, the alarm won't go off unless they open the door. If the car is armed and you're using the key to open it, it will disarm it that's why it doesnt' go off.

The alarm is working fine because when you open it with the key it will not sound the alarm. If you want to test the alarm just set the alarm with the window down and open the door lock from inside without not key.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I had a Ford Taurus before
Alarm on that car go off, if I tried to open the door by pressing the handle outside or if I try using a key without disarming it.

If I understand correctly,
In CL if someone uses a duplicate key or something, alarm wont go off.
If someone breaks the window then alarm wont go off.
If someone breaks the window on driver side, then press the silver unlock button, and then opens the door then alarm wont go off.

Seems pretty useless security system

yeah, it's for show only (almost)

however, you can add an aftermarket shock sensor (about $10). do a search on how to install it
