New Head Unit and Speaker Recommendations Please!
OK, I took the forum's advice and got a new head unit. I just had an Alpine 9833 installed today. Very sweet h/u with quite a bit of options. The shop bypassed the bose amp but we kept the bose speakers. This deck has 26 Watts RMS and 60 Watts Peak, so the built-in amp is supposed to be a lot cleaner than the bose amp. It certainly drives the Bose speakers better than the stock h/u and Bose amp did!
Now I know this has been covered in a few forums and I am trying to make sense out of it all, so I figured I would ask my specific questions, so pardon anything that might be redundant
Anyway, with the stock speakers there is a definate improvement, but I want to add richer bass, especially at lower volumes, without adding a sub. So, I am thinking new speakers all around but I have been told that swapping out speakers might actually give me LESS low volume bass. For those that have tried this, is this true?
If I were to swap out the speakers, what speakers would you recommend that will both fit easily (clearance with trunk bars, door, etc) front (components) and rear (6x9) and also provide better bass response? They would need to work with the power coming from the deck as I don't want to install an amp. Again, I listen to music at a lower volume so I am just trying to get the bass to richen up.
Thanks!
Rick

Well, my local car audio shop is recommending Eclipse speakers all the way around. Since I listen to music at a lower volume and still want good bass response, he says the efficiency (98db!) of these will help a lot. Here are the ones he is recommending:
6x9s: http://www.eclipse-web.com/index_speaker.html
6 1/2": http://www.eclipse-web.com/index_speaker.html
He says that these 6.5" speakers will actually fit into the doors because of their shallow mounting depth, but I dunno. You guys really seem to recommend sticking to the 5" speakers. Should I let him try it or should I stick to the 5"?
Thanks,
Rick

Well, had it all done today and it sounds VERY nice! Great bass, mids and highs. At times, I would swear I had a sub. Also, it was a direct drop-in. No mods necessary and everything cleared, including the trunk springs, without needing spacers. Anyway, I thought I would pass along how it turned out. I highly recommend this combination!

Yeah, sorry about that. The audio forum seemed kinda dead so I thought I would try in here. I guess thinking like that is probably why it seems dead!
Next time, I will use the proper forum.
Thanks
