Okay, this is not funny, coming out of work, 11:35PM Very Cold. My friend has a neon around 97 or 96?? Anyway, he said let's race, I accept, My car is still kindof cold, but already past blue, he has a stick 5 spd. I have a 3.0 Auto and he killed me???!!!???! I mean he was round 1/2 a cars length. Could somebody tell me what the f happened?? Weird.

Try it again when your car is fully warmed up. I've gotten smacked down before when my car was still very cold. It doesnt seem to perform right when its cold. The VTEC doesnt seem to kick in at 3.5 rpms till it is warm. I can tell from the sound of my short ram when the VTEC engages. IDK just taking a guess for ya. Someone with true knowledge....EDUCATE US!

Good Point.....what mods did this Neon have, and what did you have? If you are stock and he is not.....it is possible for him to be pretty quick

 

If it was an R/T it would have sounded a little better. A normal 5 speed neon sport, it should have never happened. That car has 131 hp 0-60 in 8.4. That means a lot of driver error on your behalf, and flawless driving by him. Assumig both cars are stock........don't race anymore

 

Cant imagine a neon owner begging to race otherwise.

 

Neons in that year range had a 150HP engine, and they weigh half what our cars do. Plus with stick...good chance he'd beat any 3.0 stock.

 

Im with DING069....hes right...my friends got a Ram 5.9 R/T and i can kill him...thats givin...but if it was a Neon R/T..thats a different story....theose things are F A S T and L I G H T!!! Way lighter than our 3.0's....plus its a stick...and your car was cold...sure, only if it was an R/T could i understand why he beat you....My 2 friends told me i coudnt beat one...i donno if i can...maybe..

 

A Dakota R/T or a Ram R/T? I did not think there was a Ram R/T. I wouldn't of thought a R/T could be beat by a 3.0Cl....

 

Just because your H/C needle was out of the Blue area doesn't mean it's warm. My car doesn't run right until my needle tells me its 4pm or so.....Man loosing to a neon, that sucks. I've killed numerous neons.

yeah its because your car was still too cold. Your VTEC wasn't actived. On my civic its not that much different but i noticed it on the 3.0CL. When your car is warm up you'll spank him with ease, R/T or not.

 

hehehe.....let your car warm up and you'll be hitting 10's again.

 

Either your car was too cold to activate VTEC or he's spraying and/or has tons of mods. Dodge did put the 150hp DOHC in non R/T cars starting in 1996, that would make things intresting but you should still pull away. But there is no way in hell a stock SOHC 132hp Neon would win against a 3.0.
