Need your opinion on my grille guys...

Well let's see here, I got a 97 grille and what I want to do is cut/sand off the center portion of it so that all i have is a big curvy shaped hole in the center and throughout the grille, then I'm going to trace a template of gutter guard or something and cut it out, then quicksteel or JBweld it to the back of the plastic grille... then put it on my car..

im gonna paint the gutter guard gloss black as well. you guys think this will turn out good? trying to get some opinions, seeing how once i start, i cant go back unless i buy a new one.

i wanna cut that red part out (kinda hard to draw the line at this angle) but i think u guys get the idea.... sooo

or ?

so you want it like how ding did it on his car? i think he had the guy put some fiberglass and stuff to fill it in and he said it was a bitch to do and that the gut would never make a grill like that again

HOLY SHIT THAT IS AN UGLY ASS GRILLE!! jk, not that bad

damn though, 98 grilles look like they are definitely much easier to cut... i had to cut these thick parts on the side with a dremel and yea, it sucked. i think it would've been easier to cut those little bars.. u want me to do it fo rya? haha

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing with my 98 grill. Just afraid of messing up and looking worse than it is.

Will there be any gaps after you cut? What will you fill that with?

I know if i do this with the 98 grill, there will be gaps.

yeah, 97 will have gaps at the 2 areas where the centerpiece meets with the sides... i'm going to fill it with some kind of plastic/putty material, let it dry, sand it even, then primer it flat black

the 98 grille is a good piece to do this project with

uh.... okay what do you guys think i should use to fill up these 3 gaps, would quicksteel/fast steel be able to hold the primer as well as plastic would? i was thinking of using that... any suggestions?

all you 98 grille-ers... do this project NOW!

its about 10x easier with a 98 grille than with a 97 grille and it looks 10x better also its pretty damn easy too

Why do you think it's soo much easier with the 98+ grill?

I think it's harder, more cutting and filling way more gaps.
... or maybe there's an easier way than what I thought of...

Looks great. Want to do the same but I dont know if I could pull it off. Let me know how it looks. Did you put mesh behind the grille? Let's see some pics.

OKAY!!!!

got my grille done but gotta paint the back part of it black so that it doesn't show... that one part that holds up the stock grille sorta, yeah if you use gutter guard it shows... but i got pics of the grille on the floor

I also did my fogs... got them with some yellow H3 bulbs, check it out!

Started off with this:

Covered the gaps with Fast Steel...

Dremel sanded that shiet DOWN...

Grille before

Grille after

Grille on car (need to paint that center black) with my fogs...

Fog output with HID's! Sweet as hell in person...

don't flame on the grille yet.. it aint done, haha

I don't see what all you guys have against the 98 grille. It looks way better than the 97 because, the 97 looks like Nissan, Ford, and Chevy grilles with the shinny bar across that black plastic crosshatch. I think the 98 grille looks more like the Lexus grille. Oh well, just my opinion. I'll be leaving my grille clean and in tact. Good luck with the project. Oh, I do like the mesh, but I don't think gutter gaurd is what you wanted. It would be more like the stuff on the front of a QuickSilver G5 Macintosh tower. Smaller holes. Gutter guard shows way too much of your radiator support.

I like the fogs though. those are nice.

97silver2.2CL, you need to paint the radiator core support and hood latch assembly satin black - don't do gloss or flat - you need to hide what's behind the grill so it'll blend in. Good job on what you've done so far. I know you wanted to show pics with the lights on but post some pics with the grill on during the day (preferrably after you paint behind the grill).

By the way - I have a 97 grill that I'd be willing to trade for a 98 grill plus $. Any offers???

I know my opinion doesnt matter much, lol. But dont try to do this with the 99' style grill. I tried to do the same thing except with fiberglass and real mesh and its still undone. It was a pain to cut all the bars out and the fiberglassing wasne too bad, but attaching the mesh and everything is just alot of trouble. So ive been grilless for a couple months now lol, just b/c im too lazy.

But very good job i like the grill, fogs, and clear corners
