Need serious ball joint help

So my passenger side CV is shot and I decided I would try to replace it myself. Everything was going great but in the process I realized the lower ball joint also needs to be replaced. I have read tons of posts about this and knew I would need the ball joint puller and the honda/acura adapter. No problem, I got everything I needed and went to work. I got it about a quarter inch out of the knuckle and that's it. I thought I wasn't putting enough strength into it but I look a look and the edge of the ball joint can not get passed part of the wheel hub. I am not sure what it is called so I will try to describe it. It is the metal ring in the hub that has the groovs in it that the cv joint slides through. Anyway the bottom edge of that ring is preventing me from removing the ball joint. I have looked at tons of other peoples pictures and it looks like the ring is supposed to have a small "Cutout" at the bottom so that the cv joint can get passed it. My car doesnt have that so the ball joint wont rise up more that a quarter of an inch or so before it is blocked by this piece. Does anyone have a clue what I am talkig about and if so does anyone have any advice? If not I will try to get a picture tomorrow I know I am not describing this very well. Anyway it is a 99 Cl 3.0. Thanks for anyone that has any ideas.

When I had my CV replaced, the guy couldn't get my lower BJ to move and had to break it and charge me for a new one

Ok guys I found a pic online and circled the part that I can not get past. This part circled in yellow is just protruding out too far. When I use the press the ball joint just rises up till it hits that piece.

when the ball joint is being pressed out, it probably hits that area. I think I might have to replace my ball joints soon, so I'll be interested to hear the solution
