need help with a part number/name of sensor

so i was putting a new starter in (i have 2 cars and both starters went bad on the same day, who the hell does that happen to?!) and while i was putting this starter in a sensor just kinda snapped off...i guess all the heat had made it brittle. anyway, i have no idea what this sensor is called, but as far as i can tell it controls the shifting.

so if anyone can give me a name and/or part number that would be very helpful.

pics related.

also...how the hell do you get the sensor out?
