As i have said before im having trouble in which i thought was my tranny problem, when in fact it is the tourque convertor
as so, this guy that worked for acura says, th ecar makes a whining noise and it wont go into gear and all it does it rev and sometimes it will catch and go but hardly at all
anyone have an idea, or anyone have this happen to them?

I've described the problems previously in past threads, that if the car starts shifting weird then the torque converter is the first to go, then goes the gears.
I'd get it fixed before it gets worse and cost more. A factory torque converter costs $400, then you put in the labor. My tranny is going again. YES!!!! Yeah call me whack but the warranty is still in effect so as soon as they rebuild it again then a tranny cooler will go on immediately afterwards.
Our trannies are small for the horsepower we're pushing so going 100+ mph for about 15 minutes or more straight will kill the tranny. As the fluid is boiled over and burnt it eventually loses its viscosity and becomes like water. Yeah that's what I did today and after driving it at 100+ mph for over 20 minutes I just shut it off when I got to my destination without letting it cool down first, so when I fired it back up it jerks like crazy and has been like that since. The tranny can be compared in this case to a turbocharger, which to prevent damage usually needs to have a cool down period where it continues running until it gets down to safe temperatures.
I will probably take it in next week, gotta look for my receipt first.
So the lesson to be learned is get a tranny cooler ASAP to those who don't yet have problems.
So I wish you the best of luck! Get it checked out immediately it will save ya. Don't wait to the point where your car dies on you whenever it feels like kicking into gear. That's how long I waited.
Driving her hard lately????

James: i was driving it and then all i could do is rev, i mean now i can start it up and it will occasionally get into gear but not all the time and most of the time it slips
so replace the TC, would i need to open up the tranny to see if that is needed too? can i hook it up to a OBD2 sensor checker to see what it is? i dont have a light on or nothing
any more ideas on what i should do?
would the TC show on the module if there is no light on?

i need to get a tranny cooler, what size is best and is bigger = better?? hayden? tru-cool? permacool? any others?
im going to flush the whole system when i do this and then i have it there i will do the water pump and timing belt with him and learn the insides and out of the 3.0 motor
hope this goes well, acura wants 649 for a new TC, should i look for a used or does a new compared to a used matter?

if the torque converter is bad then u have chuncks of metal in ur fluid, therefore u got it all through out ur tranny, u may be lookin at a rebuild. if its bad enough to just rev, then the dammage is pretty extensive. an obd2 will not tell u anything. u need to just have it cracked open and be sure nothing is dammaged. cause if u just get the converter changed and pay all that money, and there is a prob with the tranny ie. metal shavings, they will get in ur new converter and ruin it as well. if u got any q's hit me up.

97Acura3.0CL hey if you get it replaced in time you wont have to replace the "hard parts" the metal gears and junk as aposed to just replaceing the "soft parts" the clutch plates and the TC. they are the first to go . my car had the same problem at 116K and i had amco do the replacement and it costed me $$ 2300. my shit rides like a caddy now though! -- minus being droped 2" all the way around!,,, and oh there is a filter in the case of our trannys , replace that too!
GOOD LUCK!!

Second one on the page. They're out of stock now, but I'm sure you can find one elsewhere.
