A-CL Post Whore w/N2O
It will be close. The Solara has 2 less HP, but 17 ft lbs more torque, and weighs 21 lbs more than the '98 3.0CL.
I'd say it's a driver's race.
Good luck!

Leave your spare at home tomorrow and anything else you can think of.
What mods do you/him have?

Eh, it's up to the drivers. I drive my gf's 2000 Solara v6 everyday and once in a while we race each other. Her in her solara, and me in my 3.0 98 and I seem to have no trouble with her

If it's stock against stock I got a little suggestion. Power Brake. Keep your left foot on the brake and give the gas pedal a little pressure to get your RPM's up to about 2300. When the light turns GREEN lift off of the brake and slam the gas. It helps alot cuz in my opinion our cars are freakin sluggish til about 3000.

98CL2point3: I dunno, it doesn't sound like you were on the brake hard enough then....my car doesnt move when I do it, so my brakes don't creak..

Are you sure it's stock? Have you looked or just taking his word for it?
How much money are we talkin'?
If it's a big deal, have a buddy "test-drive" a Solara from your local Toyo dealer and meet you for a practice run......

Don't they make a TRD supercharger for that shit? Oh well...even with it, its only like 245 or so HP to the crank. Regardless, that car is slow. My roommate last year had an SLE V6 and he refused to race me at all.
You're basically racing a Camry...give the CL a little more confidence than that.
