need advice

i went to a tire shop the other day to get my brakes fixed because my car is making a loud metallic noise when i hit the brakes. i was told i need new rotors calipers and pads. and they want 800 to do it with the parts. i think i can get the calipers for around 125 for both and the rotors for pretty cheap too. but they want 380 for labor if i get the parts. do you think that is too much and would they just do the rotors for cheaper and i can get a friend to do the caliper because as i was told in these older cars a machine is need to change the rotors?

you don't really need new rotors. just ask to have them resurfaced, then new brake bads. they are charging you a lot in my opinion dude. i had my stuff done resurfaced rotors, new brake pads, minus the calipers, for 200, that's including labor...adding calipers probably wouldn't increase it that much. it's possible to find a cheaper deal, but then again, i live in SJ. countless shops here

Did they tell you why you need new calipers? Are they leaking? Usually when you get metallic sounds, it means your pads are worn

Calipers could also give you that sounds, especially if they have seized or rusted!!!!
I had that problem with my back calipers both rusted completely!

Probably go with brakes and resurface though first! see if that solves your problem bro!

Your pads are probably just bad. Get your rotors resurfaced and buy pads and install them yourself. Cheap, unless you have a 97.

I'd take it to another garage and get a second opinion. If your rotors were resurfaced in the past, you might not be able to do it again.
