hey guys, got a lil problem here. I was driving back from school last night and when I left the apt I started hearing this grinding noise in the rear driver side wheel, what im guessing is something is up with the brakes? either the pads or the rotors? It got louder as I hit 45 mph and sounded horrendous when I hit the brakes, pulled over took a look and started to freak out. Then I drove on it for 5 minutes and it stopped and everything is fine now.

Question is.

If its the brake pads and/or the rotors is the problem shouldnt it only be grinding only when I apply the brakes? i was thinking it was the e-brake because i have a habit of always using it when parking and could it be that the e-brake was making that noise and it gradually got looser (thus stopping the sound)?

Any help would be appreciated.

just look at your rear pads, they probably need to be replaced.

 

Had a rock get stuck on top of my rear pad last week, that was a terrible sound.

 

Ran over pedobear once, he was stuck between my rotor and the pad. Nasty sound as well.

 

holy crap i had that same problem, started to freak out so the next day took of everything, tire, pads, rotors to figure what da hell was it...it was a dumb rock stuck inbetween..

 

Yeah i just stopped as soon as it happened and drove backwards a bit swerving... it came out.
