N E BODY KNOW WHICH is better bulbs HID D2S or D2R

Well the d2R bulbs are made for reflector type HID housings where the d2s bulbs are made for projector type HID housings. The D2r's have a covering (like are 9006 bulbs)to block unwanted glare but are put in certain spots in HID housings but since we have halogen housings i have read that the glare points dont line up so we are just going to have dead spots because of the coating on the bulb. This means that for retrofitting you probably want d2s bulbs even though we dont have projectors because we dont have HID reflector housings either. This is my understand from reading the the philips forum on auto lighting and the place where i bought my HIDs. The problem with retrofitting from another car is your bulbs arent going to be beam pattern corrected so the HID filament is going to be in a different spot than the halogen filiment causing excessive glare. Good luck

yeah but the same result would occur with any of the hid kits also. correct? the are the exact same thing cept that they have 9006 connectors and trhe bulbs are made to insert into the housing. the new cl housing are similar to ours. is it just the way the reflecotr piece is shaped that makes the difference? who has HIDs on there first gen???

You will never acheive the oem beam pattern w/o oem projectors or housings. In order to get the best pattern you will need to retrofit projectors but if you dont want to do that i suggust getting beam pattern corrected capsules. They aline the xenon arc with where the halogen capsule or whatever it is called used to be. This eliminates a lot of glare. This is just from what i have read but it seems to be true. I have beam pattern corrected and have little glare

mine are way off, since they're off a GS400...but still they're bright enough that it doesn't really matter.
patrick is right, only way to get the good beam pattern is to retrofit a projector housing, or an entire xenon housing from an HID car...

projectors are the way to go... they are always on eBay...
you can also find damaged audi or bmw headlights (also look for S2000 lights) and just pull the projectors from them.
I got a hold of Maxima headlights from a body shop. The plastic lens on the lights was scratched and cracked, but all the xenon components were fine...
In my accord headlights, I removed the little bulb shield thing on the low beams, and did some fabrication to fit the bulb shield from the maxima headlights in my accord headlights. The maxima shield prevents the light from hitting the bottom of the reflector, this light would then be reflected up and into other peoples eyes... so basically, I solved the glare issue that you normally get when you retro-fit HID's. It also improved the beam pattern, I dont have any dead spots or hot spots... but the beam seems kind of dim compared to oem HID lights.
My next step is to fit 2nd gen Acura TL reflectors into my headlights... with the diffuser and all... but I am going to wait to get JDM headlights first, then fit the TL lights into the JDM housings.

What my buddy did was to snip part of the side off a can of Pepsi. Then you epoxy that strip to the base of the bulb, effectively hiding the bottom half of the bulb from the reflector and preventing light from shooting up and blinding people.
It worked great, and the housings look bluish in the day because of the Pepsi can.
