123,000 miles

I dont know how much time is left. In the last month the car will down shift pretty hard when Im comming to a stop. RPM's shoot up when it shifts down. Also, when speeding up RPM's will shoot high before shifting into the next gear. This doesn't happen often but I believe this is a sign of a failing tranny.

Does this sound familiar to those who have replaced their tranny? How much time do you think I have left? Any intervention I can take to postpone the rebuild? How much will rebuild cost?

Sounds about the same as mine (97 3.0CL, died at 133K miles) before it died. Cost $3K to rebuild through Aamco. For a dealer installed drop in rebuilt tranny, I was quoted $4K-4.5K form two different dealers. Driving fine now 6 months after rebuild. Others have had it rebuilt for less money depending on amount of damage the internals have sustained. Mine were all completely gone. Too much downshifting I presume....
