Is my tranny going?
Hey guys,
I this is only my 2nd week with my CL and I noticing it drives a lot differently than the Mustang I had before this. I just have a few questions about how it rides. I'm trying to see if it is normal or something is wrong with the transmission.
BTW, it is a 97 2.2L 4 Cyl engine with no mods on it yet and an AUTOMATIC tranny
Here are the things I noticed
1. at times when driving i floor it and the tach just shoots up into the redline RPM range. Is this normal or should it shift at like the 5-6k rangs so I dont get up into the redline?
2. After I make a turn, if I go to floor it. It just shoots up into the redline RPM range as well.
3. At time after I Reverse the car and then put it in drive, I have to get up 1.5k RPM range before the car starts to move at all.
Are these things normal of an automatic car with a small engine or is my tranny oing to need to be fixed/replaced soon?
Thanks for helping a newbie out,
Evan

ENGAGE MY VTEC BABY!!!!!!
1. if you floor it it will raise the arm to the redline cause your flooring it to the floor dummy
2. again you are flooring it, i floor mine too sometimes, well a lot since i drive my car hard, but you can hit the redline whne you floor it
3. if you are reversing and you throw it into drive you will need some rpms to get the car rolling again forward, so about 1.5k is about right when you put it in drive from reverse
NOTE: Evan: if you feel the tranny slip when you are driving like, if you gun it and it goes to shift and it feels like it doesnt shift properly, then i would say you need a new tranny, from your descrition above you are just talking about driving the car hard, thats all, i do too. go easy on her and treat her right and she'll treat you right back with no problems, but i wouldnt worry about anything so now it sounds like you are just driving it hard

Thanks,
I drove cars hard before, but I always had sticks, so i could shift before I got into the redline range. I just didnt know if they auto transmission was supposed to shift before it allowed me to get into that range.

DamnThisHobby'sExpensive!
sometimes when im in park, and i go to shift into D4 (when i let my foot off the break and dont touch the pedal but just let it coast at idle speed) the car kinda jerks forward and then back and then forward again...then starts to move forward....(im scared...im guessing this is hella bad???)

When you floor it...it downshifts into a lower gear kicking the RPM's into redline. gotta learn how to give it gas so it wont jump and you wont leave your tranny behind you
