my short ram feels faster than my CAI!

Ok, lately I havebeen switching back and forth between my CAI and SRI. I can honestly say that the SRI pulls alot harder in first gear. It seems like 1st gear just redlines way way faster with the SRI in. Even second gear has this little extra pull to it. The only problem is that for some reason with the SRI it completely dies off in 3rd gear before redline. The CAI makes good power all the way till about 6K, but the SRI feels dead after about 5,600. Has anyone else expieramented between both intakes? I'm thinking about trying to copy the comptech idea and make some sort of "ice box" for the SRI. I have a 2.3 5spd. with e/i/h. Also these tests i've done both with the same filter, but the SRI appears to have very slightly larger piping but it might just be my eyes. I'm gonna go measure them right now.

SRI=3"
CAI=3"

nevermind, same size piping.

yeah the SRI will produce the power sooner than the CAI. BTW, ya with CAI do you use a bypass?

no bypass. I've never had any problems with the hydrolock BS, but my good frieds spec-v is another story!

Last winter, he had to replace the throttle boddy, mass airflow censor, and something else. They actually covered him through warrantee somehow. Nissan dealers are a lot cooler about aftermarket shit than honda IMO.

BTW- do any of you guys actually change your cone air filters every so often or do you just clean them. I've had the same one for over a year, and it's fine to me. I clean it with soap, hot water, and a brush every month or so.

I just got done cleaning mine and it looks brand new. It's an AC autotechnic filter.

personally i buy the K&N air filter cleaner and i have had my filter for almost 3 yrs now and i clean it about every other to every 3 months, trust me it makes a difference and you can feel it, i just cleaned yesterday and i can play around shince im running on a spare since i am waiting for my new tire to arrive

but i would say that i personally clean it and you can control the quality and how you do it, with a new one you are paying a nice chuck of change everytime you buy a new one, isnt the K&N filter 3" like 59 bucks?, i paid 12 bucks for the cleaner and i have used the cleaner about 4-5 times before buying a new cleaner pack

hope this helps

hmm... Ive been wondering for awhile which kind of your two intakes sounds better? louder? at WOT. Short ram or CAI?

And what company makes each one?

Because I can careless about perfomance gains, i just love the sound ;-) Sounds mean as hell.

the short ram is AC autotechnic, and the cold air is a generic brand off ebay. But I am using the AC filter with both. It's a good filter, and the piping is EXACTLY the same size, finish, material everything.

They both sound about the same untill about 5000 rpms, then the short ram gets quite a bit louder for some reason.

no man i'm serious, 1st gear pulls harder with the SRI. And 3rd pulls harder with the CAI. It's obviously not a huge difference, but there is a little one. I'm gonna go race one of my buddies with the SRI and then the CAI and see if the results are any different.

once it hits 4800 it screams with the SRI. I have no idea why though. The tone is about the same, just louder.

actually it sthe same shit... Its really physcological... if there are any differences its by a hp or 2 which is not noticeable... the louder sound is what makes you think that yoiu are going faster.... I experienced this going from Shirt Ram to AEM CAI: Thought I was slower.... AEM CAI to INJEN CAI and thought it was faster again!!!!

ok, i just went out and tested the SRI again, and now i'mconfusedas hell! 2nd and 3rd actually feel about the same, but 1ST GEAR GOES BY FASTER! This has nothing to do with the sound! It just gets through 1st gear a little quicker. After that its a toss up.

I think the SRI still might be getting alot of cold air, since the whole fenderwall is just about cut out, and plenty of air can get in there. I think if I built a platic box like comptech areound the air filter and left the bottom open, it would be better than the CAI also it's starting to look like rains coming here, so that the mainreason i've been testing the SRI.

and i'm not trying to mislead anyone and say it's a huge difference. It's very minor. Just thought i'd let you guys that live in wet places know that a cai doesn't pull any harder and if your worried than go with a short ram.

also i'm gonna go to the track friday and i'll probably try the SRI. I want to bring both and switch halfway through the night, but i'll just try the other intake the next week. I'll let you guys know after the track.

I still wish one of you fuckers would come to qualcom to run with me! oh well.

don't make a heat shield out of aluminum for the air filter. That will get really hot.

Aluminum dispates heat really fast. To prove my point, if u put alum foil in the oven, it gets had hot quick, but it also gets really cool fast. Metals such as steel, cast iron, stone, etc will stay hot for long periods of time. That is Y most of them are used as slow cooker pots. But the point of a heat shield is to allow air from outside of the car rather than from inside the engine area, by making it harder get to the filter. + it is really light

yeah, i guess your right, i was kinda thinging he was talking about steel. Aluminum would be pretty good. Thats what that injen one is made of it looks like. A black platic or something would probably look better tho.

Heat shields do work for short ram. The weapon-R brand intake uses heatshields for some of their cars and also have a adaptor to have ram air. I heard some weapon r ones and they sound nice. I dunno wat it sounds like on our cars. I been thinking about getting a short ram and the weapon-r one interesting.
