My Build: Revealed (long story + Pics =56k FTL)

One custom CL
Yesterday was eventful, while testing for spark, I killed the starter lol . Picked up a new starter, cap and rotor. Put the new starter in, it cranks a few times and then no more. Test voltage at the battery with my meter, 10.1v and dropping Killed my Optima Yellow Top. Tried charging it overnight with a battery jump box but the crank is still too slow, so I'm gonna get a new battery today.
While I waited, I took the distributor apart to inspect for my spark issue, found some interesting results.
Old vs New rotor
That old rotor was horrendous , and the cap lead points weren't the best either. Installed a new cap and rotor and reassembled the rest of the car to wait for a battery, hopefully this solves my issue and I can have her running so that I can concentrate on putting my M3 back together

M3 is getting a fresh head and some cams. I just got the head back from the machine shop so I need to check piston to valve clearance with the new cams and start reassembling it.
Shops in general suck. Good ones are hard to come by. Most people I know go there and work on their car themselves. They practically live there. My shop did a shitty job. I entrusted the head guy with my car, he has been working on it for nearly 8 years now. One day he decided not to work on cars anymore. Just a shit show. As Chris said. In the end we know so much more that we can just do the whole thing ourselves... finding the time is a totally diff story
LOL. Why are you measuring mainshaft end play? Do you mean crankshaft endplay?

Hmmm....
I very much dislike the way this looks. Dented oil pan makes it very possible that oil pickup tube is dented or too close to the bottom of the pan. Ordered a new pan, pan gasket, oil pick up tube and gasket, oil spring relief valve, and oil pressure sensor. Lets hope this solves the oil issue so I can start driving this thing more often.

Yup. Today while driving the car, it shut off on me while coming to idle and wouldn't crank over again as if it had no power. Had to call my girl to come give me a jump start. Guess the alternator is going out too. Also raised it in the air with a jack and found more oil pan dents, a leaking tranny drain bolt, and that I could shake the damn front wheels even though the lugnuts are tight. This is what I get for trying to revive a car that's been sitting for 4 years huh.

Worked on her this weekend and solved a couple things. Turns out the axle nuts were loose, once I tightened them the wheels were solid. The alternator also isn't bad, I found that the plug for it wasn't all the way in when I pulled the rubber plug cover back. Pushed it in solid and the voltage was back. Slow/no crank was a bad starter. Even though it was new, it failed the tests at Advanced Auto so they gave me a new one and bam, cranked up and started as designed with a constant 14.1v while running.
Now to put her in the air on Thursday and change the oil pan, pickup tube, etc. and solve the oil light issue! If all that goes well I can finally get it tuned next week, awww yeah!

I've changed a few things and the stupid oil light is still on.
I ordered an H22 oil pan and gasket, so I also ordered a pickup tube and gasket to go with it just in case. Removed the pan and found the pickup tube installed on the car was different from the one I ordered as it was deeper, so I installed the new tube and new oil pan. Also installed a new oil pressure sensor and redid the wire connection to it to ensure it was getting the proper connection. Added oil and checked level, level was right at the top hole on the dipstick.
Turn car on, car warms up and oil light comes back on again which made me pretty angry. Start to drive home, and the light turns off! Yes! I thought I was in the clear, till I came to a stop off the highway and the light came back on. Another thing I noticed is that the battery voltage was consistently dropping as I drove. Started at 14v and by the time I got home, it had dropped to 12.8 which I believe is too low. The only 2 things left I can think of are the oil spring relief valve and the oil pump, which would suck as either way the pan is gonna have to come back off. Unless the drop in voltage is a possible contributor to the issue, which I'll find out today. At least I can say I got what I paid for when it comes to the internals.
Current bane of my existence lol.
Internals
The oil pickup tube that was installed on the car is on the left, the one I ordered for an H22 is on the right. Since I was installing an H22 pan I installed the H22 pickup tube also just in case to make sure the clearance for the pickup tube was correct.
And so, the saga continues...

Update time! After battling this oil pressure issue, I've narrowed it down to two possibilities, both which require removal of the engine. Most likely the oil galleys that need to be plugged for the balance shaft eliminator kit were not. SO the engine is coming back out again unfortunately.
On a good note, since I got this awesome new job I can afford to buy a spare long block to run the car while I dismantle the current built one, so that's what I'll be doing. I'd like to also bring the car back to close to stock appearance for daily driving/stealth appearance, as when I did drive it around it caught too much police attention from the tinted lights and whatnot. So if anyone has spare tail lights and 2.3 premium rims let me know!

I came across the receipts for my engine build recently, and thought it was a damn shame that I spent that much not to have a running, driving, racing CL.
So I decided to give it one last shot at reviving the car, since my finances can allow for it now.
Got her outta storage, loaded up onto a friends trailer and over to a local Honda mechanic who has dealt with these H's countless times. So we'll see how it goes from here.
If it doesn't work out this time, I'm parting it out and putting the money towards my actual race car lol.
Wish me luck!

Motor is back together and in the car. Oil pressure went from being 10psi when starting cold and 3 psi when hot to 140psi on cold start to 45 hot. So we're getting somewhere!
